I have been reading comments on various mod pages on Nexus all day in order to gather as much information about each of the mods I'm installing as possible, and I'm honestly so tired of how entitled some people are. I am not a mod creator. I am a mod user. And I have always functioned under two understandings when I use other people's mods in my games.

1. I am not a customer. Mod authors create for fun. They create mods for themselves. They are not being paid for their work. They often spend hours, weeks, months, heck, sometimes years creating and perfecting their mods FOR FREE. But ultimately they do it for their own enjoyment, and are kind enough to share their work with the rest of us. It is not reasonable for me to respond like a Boomer taking coffee from a minimum wage employee at a McDonalds. That is to say with endless demands and complaints. Because I am not a paying customer. Politely worded suggestions are fine provided the mod author has not made it clear on their mod page that they are finished with the mod, and will not be taking any more requests. But it is so important to respect the mod author's time and space and avoid making unwelcome demands.

2. The moment, and I mean the MOMENT I begin adding mods to my game I accept that it is more than possible the game will break, and I accept full responsibility for fixing it should that happen. This becomes more true the more mods I add to the game. It is MY responsibility to do the research, learn about load order, search for information on compatibility, make sure none of the mods overlap, and learn how to use modding tools like FO4Edit, mod organizers, Creation Kit, Wyre Bash and etc. to fix the problems which WILL inevitably arise. If I am not prepared to go through all of that work, than I should not be modding. A good way for beginners to start is to just add a few popular, and well established mods at first, then slowly add more as you go. That way you can learn to solve problems as they come. DO NOT come at mod authors with comments like, "This mod is broken." "Doesn't work. Fix it." "You ruined my game!" Because it is far, far more likely that either, A. The mod works fine, but you have another mod which is conflicting, or B. You just didn't do the necessary research to install it properly. And furthermore (and I cannot possibly emphasize this enough) IT'S NOT THEIR RESPONSIBLITY TO KEEP YOUR GAME RUNNING SMOOTHLY. IT'S YOURS! It is okay to ask for help AFTER you have done your best to fix the problem yourself. But always assume the fault is on your end. Not theirs. Most mod authors are much more likely to take your problem seriously and try to help you if you are humble, gracious, and can show what you have already done to solve the problem yourself. This is your best bet for a solution even in the unlikely event that the problem IS a mod bug.
I guess at the end of the day, if you're going to mod your game, just remember: Mod authors owe you literally nothing. But they often choose to give regardless. Please don't take advantage of them. Most of them are people with full time jobs and families, or schoolwork to worry about. Just - just be nice. Is that really so much to ask?

I'll get off my soapbox now.

I stopped reading after "It is not reasonable for me to respond like a Boomer" after you thought it would be a good idea to insult a certain population of users on the Nexus.

I didn't stop, but yeah ... It kinda destroys the wall of text message.

Go work in retail or fast food for a year in the current social climate and tell me I'm wrong. Besides. One thing I do agree with most Boomers on is the importance of being okay with being exposed to different values and ideas. The importance of developing a thick skin, and not being offended or triggered by the little things. It's something most Boomers are (wisely, I think) very passionate about.

The irony.

Talking about people acting entitled, while continuously attacking a certain percentage of Nexus Members and thinking that's OK, and not "Entitlement"

Pro-Tip, when posting a lot of text, use paragraphs.

I actually agreed with your message, but your uncalled for attacks on "Boomers" killed it for me.

In your own words...Ironically

Working in Retail doesn't give you an entitlement to go after a certain percentage of people on this site, and group them into one stereotype

Wow.... Have we become so sensitive, that one turn of phrase destroys the entire message?

The point is, it was completely unnecessary, and would've gone over great, except for that one stereotype/attack.

What was the whole point of tossing that comment into the middle of something we would've all agreed on? All it did was sour the message.

Also, I find it kind of ironic you saying that, considering you and I are in that age group, and considering some of the topics you were 'offended/sensitive' about

it's not about sensitivity. it's about the message. if you start to use generic phrases that are designed to insult, then you've lost whatever point it was you were trying to make. you may not be aware of this, but that's how it works.

Which ones were those?? :) I have strong opinions on some topics, yes, but, being called a 'boomer', sure ain't one of 'em. (Not sure I fall into that category in any event? I am 60....)

I disagree. Sure, it may have been an unfortunate choice of wording, but, the message still applies even so.

Hello. if someone want to build a mod, need first to know 100% what to do and what programs need to use to made them. The excuse, but I don't know how to fix certain problems that may arise, or I don't care what you say to those who use it, is not acceptable. It shows no respect for those who will honor the man, bringing to the game something new, which most of the time is useful, fun, or gets you thinking. So now, after almost 6 years, Fallout 4 is out and using and trying so many and so many mods, i decide to have to my game, only the mods i really really like and they are great because the are honest and simple and 100% stable. And speaking about mods, i see so many years all the problems cause by Bethesda to mod creators, because they want to make something big and great and give to themselves and to us, something new and yes, something honest, simple and great. That's all. Thanks.
