Can't get 0.49.3-WINE to run on Ubuntu 13.10 x64. Used wine bottle from GIT repo to create new WINE environment (using WINE 1.7.15). Installer runs fine. Says "We need .NET 3.5" which it grabs and installs, but the mod manager hangs on start-up, must be force killed:

Terminal output:

Spoiler

When I try to run it manually, after the install, I get this:

[email protected]:~$ WINEPREFIX=/home/evilsupahfly/nmm_wine wine "/home/evilsupahfly/nmm_wine/drive_c/Program Files/Nexus Mod Manager/NexusClient.exe"

err:ole:COMPOBJ_DllList_Add couldn't load in-process dll L"C:\\windows\\system32\\msxml3.dll"

err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {079aa557-4a18-424a-8eee-e39f0a8d41b9} could be created for context 0x1

err:mscoree:load_mono Could not load Mono into this process

My machine: Ubuntu 13.10 with Cinnamon instead of Unity, running Kernel 3.13.6-031306-generic on a Core 2 with a 1 GB nVidia PCIE card and 6 GB of RAM.

[email protected]:~# uname -a
Linux Asus-P5KE 3.13.6-031306-generic #201403070154 SMP Fri Mar 7 06:55:03 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

And I can't find a place to submit this on your bitbucket page. In your Wine Bottle, you have:

export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/games/fallout

But since I don't play Fallout 3, I changed it to:

export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/nmm_wine

Otherwise, my bottle is the same as what it posted on Bitbucket with the exception that I also added #!/bin/bash to the top to run it all semi-automatically from a terminal window.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

Get compiled binary. Read instruction how create wine-bottle with .Net 3.5.

Your instruction page does not say if I am supposed to say "Yes" to the WINE MONO question, so I just said YES figuring it was going to uninstall anyway. Also, as I mentioned before, I turned it into a BASH script, but I expanded on it a bit because I find myself doing this on many computers since I fix laptops and computers, install Linux on them to give them new life, and sell them, so I am usually working with virgin wine prefixes to begin with, in which case, it just makes sense to use wine's default prefix. It's a little more functional now, and a little cleaner I think.

First off, I have added the option of specifying a prefix, and if none is given, setting a default. Next, I added a check to see if the prefix exists and create it if it doesn't. Then I made a few things simpler and cleaner by making them defined strings. I'm happy to report that it has worked like a charm, even with the changes I made, so feel free to use this if you like.

For some reason, NMM-WINE crashes when I click "Sign In" at the bottom. As far as I can tell, however, the rest of it seems fine.

For some reason, NMM-WINE crashes when I click "Sign In" at the bottom. As far as I can tell, however, the rest of it seems fine.

I have been trying this and I too am fine doing anything except logging in. I think the trace from NMM 0.52.3 tells the story in this excerpt when an exception is thrown upon pushing the login button. Not sure how to fix it yet. But yet, we're so close. In this project I got the newest TES Mod Manager running perfectly, which did not install originally. Still working on Wyre Bash. All my other mod apps like BOSS, ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated, TES4Edit, and TES4LODGen ran perfect from the get go as did the old OBMM which I now replaced with TesMM as I plan to Mod Morrowind too ;) I tried NMM in a VM just to see how the whole package runs and I like it, except I won't bother firing up a VM when so many tools run in WINE. So let's get NMM there :)

That issue usually means that something is wrong with .Net Framework 3.5 .

Winetricks does give a caveat emptor for .NET 3.5 and above that it does not fully install and run properly in WINE. Any idea what I should try to fix it? The whole app runs fine until you try and login. In fact, TES Mod Manager targets 4.0 and runs fine. Both need the real deal .NET framework to run at all. WINE-Mono does not cut it here though OBMM, which targets 2.0, runs with Mono though has occasional random crashes, which does not happen if you have the real deal .NET framework 2.0. So as to the Mono question somebody else asked, say no as Mono and MS .NET in the same WINE bottle conflict. My distro automatically installs it, so I have to uninstall it using this command wine uninstaller --remove '{E45D8920-A758-4088-B6C6-31DBB276992E}' before installing .NET framework.

I did lookup the function and I guess it ties deeply into MS IIS(part of WCF), which they say is not possible to run in WINE. Time for somebody to come up with a hack, I guess. That, or use a different function in NMM. I can update the client just fine(where it says it's up to date), which is progress, so it must call a different function.

Oh and my error on the WINE debug side looks identical to what EvilSupahFly gets. I figured a trace from NMM itself might be useful.
