I uninstalled Frostborn Reborn and now my game crashes almost instantly for no reason

Recommended Posts

I had everything working fine and running smoothly at the beginning, but I soon realized that the mod Frostborn Reborn had a lot of issues like conjoined meshes and missing textures. Mainly because I was stupid and didn't read the mod description which specifically stated that you shouldn't use it with the Unofficial Patch. So I decided to remove it from OBMM and re-invalidate archives and rebuilding the bash patch. I started the game and loaded in my save and it always crashed after about a minute or so. I tried to delete all the saves to start fresh and it didn't solve the problem. At this point I really just want to play the game without anymore troubleshooting so if anyone has any recommendations or solutions, please let me know. FYI, I validated my game files to get the DLC back.

The problem is, is that you've removed a large Mod, and are now expecting to load a Save Game, that still has all of that mod's info in it.

You need to start a new game.

Also, that mod you uninstalled must've overwritten a bunch of files and once you uninstalled it, those files don't exist anymore.

Hang on, why did you revalidate your Oblivion files?
What exactly did you delete in your Data folder?

I did revalidate my Oblivion Files. And I did start a new game but the problem persists. The only thing I got rid of was the OMOD from Frostborn Reborn. Do I need to validate my files a second time or is there something else I'm missing?

If "revalidate" or "re-invalidate" is referring to archive invalidation (and you chose BSA Redirection when doing it the first time) it's a do once and forget about it solution.

Did you sort your new load order after uninstalling the mod and before rebuilding your bashed patch, and is there a specific reason you are using OBMM to install/uninstall mods when you are obviously also using Wrye Bash? WB is a far superior tool to use for mod installation ... with it you could have uninstalled the mod and then Annealed and avoided the mess.

Revalidate as in going into to Steam and going to the Local Files tab in the properties of Oblivion and validating the game files. And I'm using OBMM because I have mods that only have an omod file download.

That's what I was asking.

You can use OBMM to convert the OMODs to Archives so you can use the in WryeBash

Fair enough. I tend to use OBMM to extract the OMODs into loose files and folders (which can then be archived using 7-Zip for installation via Wrye Bash or in my case installed manually ... copypasta is my favourite flavour).

One thing that doesn't get fixed by Steam validation (as far as I know) is fixing any issues with Oblivion.ini that are left following an uninstall adventure. Mods like UI mods and things like Oblivion Reloaded are the more common culprits leading up to this situation, but it is another avenue to explore.

- Edit - I believe that HadTo just grabbed two :ninja: 's ... well done!!
