The Picture (Screenshot) and the Save Game are different (using Vortex 1.4.12)

I had this problem almost exactly a year ago and I'm experiencing the same problem but neither of the solutions from back then are working!

When I save, then go back to load the save, the picture (screenshot) is from the previous save, even though the description is correct and it goes to the correct save.
To confuse things worse, seemingly randomly it will be a blank screenshot.
The 2 fixes from before aren't helping for some reason.
1. Go to options and change to TAA (which I was already on)
2. Use "SSE Engine Fixes (skse64 plugin)" parts 1 and 2, which I was already using. ( I verified part 2 was present and I reinstalled part 1, and I verified "SaveScreenshots = true" in "EngineFixes.toml", and I tried disabling TAA.
I am using Vortex version 1.4.12 with Skyrim Special Edition. I am using Windows 10 Home x64, and I have 32gb of RAM.
I'd really appreciate any help of suggestions on what to try!
Thanks!

I am not sure what the issue is? You mean the tiny nearly indescernable screenshot when selecting a save file? Didn't think anyone actually paid attention to that x.x

When you save at a certain place and then exit the game, then later when you start the game, but instead of "continue" you choose load, the tiny picture next to the save file should be the scene when you saved it. in my case it is the picture of the previous save. Why would that be???

Maybe your right, its no big deal, but what it shows me is that something is wrong, and MAYBE there might be other things wrong that I'm not seeing, so if I can fix that squirrely problem somehow, maybe other things gets fixed.

(the picture is far from indiscernible, at least with my monitor)

I don't use Vortex, so I can't tell how to correctly install Engine Fixes with this tool.

Normally you should have a log file in your documents.....my games / skyrim / skse folder. Look for it and see if any errors are listed. My money is on a broken install.

Or check the mod in game with it's quicksave to regular save option. Acitvate that feature, if not already, and test what happens when hit your quicksave hotkey.

Thanks for giving me some ideas Shabdez!

Very interesting about "quicksave". It saved every time with the correct screenshot!!

And very interesting on the logs! The only error I saw was actually in the engine fixes log:

"E:\Repos\skse64\EngineFixesSkyrim64\src\patches\miscpatches.cpp(125): [warning] Error occurred trying to open file: fopen_s(C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves\cBwBrrewW\Save414_00000000_0_4B6E6F7773_SolitudeWorld_010925_20210517110529_55_1.ess.tmp, r+b), errno 2"

I'm not sure what the heck that is telling me, but I'm going to try to play around with reinstalling engine fixes!

I get the same error type in my log. I wouldn't be surprised if Vortex is handling Savegames similar to MO2. They are no longer stored in the default path (in your documents folder), but somewhere inside your Vortex directory (MO2 has them in the profil folder). So, if no saves are to be found at the default location, Engine Fixes can't do whatever it tried to do with the save at that path and records that error.

The quicksave test should generate a regular save when using the quicksave button. And it should do so everytime and not overwrite the same saveslot over and over. That is what I wanted you to test. And if it worked that way, you had a proof that Engine Fixes was doing it's job.

OK, too dense to get what you were saying earlier, LOL. I have NOW gone into "EngineFixes.toml" and set "RegularQuicksaves = true".

Now every one of the not overwritten saves are correct!! So engine fixes is indeed doing it's job, then!

So the mystery is that my saves are here:

C:\Users\...\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition\Saves\cBwBrrewW.

I might try to see if I can force Vortex to re-establish where I want my saves....

However, since dummy here didn't realize there was a "RegularQuicksaves = true" option, I definitely have a great fix until I can figure out what's causing the error.

Thanks!

OK, thanks for that info.

It still is frustrating to not know why my screenshots don't match the regular saves.

Here's a picture of the problem, kinda fuzzy and crooked since for some reason F12 wouldn't take a screenshot so I just took a picture with my camera:
