Help/Understanding Manual Installs

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am new to modding this game manually and have a few questions. The reason I chose to manually install is because I had multiple errors using Vortex (which I used for SkyrimSE with no issues and about 30 mods). Let me add that I have adjusted the video settings for Morrowind to a resolution of 3480x2160, generated distant land and have better fonts/dialogue. To me this game is starting to look great at this time. So far I have manually installed some essential plugins/mods/patches such as MCP, MGXE, MOP, MWSE, Patch for Purists and Expansion Delay. I executed/enabled these with no issues. Before I mod this game any further I want to better understand where to move folders so the game wont cause warnings/errors.

When a mod creator gives instructions to simply drop the files into the /Morrowind folder or the /Data Files folder that sounds easy enough. I see the /textures and /meshes are copied into the right folders and I see the .esp and .esm files are copied into the /Data Files main folder. I understand these files need to be enabled and in correct load order (I use mlox). Now I have downloaded a few more new mods (ex. Kezyma's UI remastered, Intelligent Textures, Project Atlas, and Faceift) and I simply dropped those folders into my /Data Files main folder. Now my /Data Files main folder has multiple folders within it and those folders have subfolders; for example, /textures, /Textures, /meshes, /Icons and /Splash. I have a few questions now:

1.) Should I copy/overwrite them /textures folders into the /Data Files/textures to enable them in the game? Same with /meshes, /Icons and /Splash?

2.) Should I copy the /Textures folders into the /Data Files/textures to enable them in game? Or should I create new a folder /Data Files/Textures and copy them to that?

1. Yes. However you should not have data\textures\textures, only data\textures.

2. No. If you have a folder structure of data\textures\textures, they will not show in the game. The correct path is data\textures\ then whatever sub-folders to cover the various items in the game. Such as data\textures\armor or \characters.

To install manually, you should copy the textures file from the mod and paste it to the data folder and allow for overwrite/replace.

NOTICE: /Textures and /textures? When /Textures folder is moved to /textures a sub folder is created /Data Files/textures/Textures. Is that the proper way to move the /Textures folder or should all files be selected within /Textures and moved to /Data Files/textures? I really do appreciate the help.

Whether a folder's name starts by a capital or not doesn't make any difference.
