FO4Edit - Replacing models with another model

Recommended Posts

Hello all, Quick question.

I'm wondering if its possible to use FO4Edit to replace existing models with other models. For this example i'm looking to use AbbaLovesYous mod "Be a Machine" to play as an assaultron then use Justice123's MAID assaultron armor.

Mods found here:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/34739?tab=description

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/10923

Would it be possible to point Abba's Be A Machine mod Assaultron to use Justice's MAID models? Or would It be best to use the creation kit?

So I tried that but I guess I'm not getting the right one. It's still ongoing and I'm trying as many as I can.

I've never used Fo4Edit until today, will it actually just straight up replace the files just like that?

Why not just swap the files?

Changing the file path & name for the model using fo4Edit is basically the same thing as replacing one file with the other. If it will work depends on the contents of the file. Are they compatible or not(?)

To replace a model, any model, even from a mod, all you have to do is put a model by the same name with the same path in your fallout4's data directory and set fallout to allow for newer (loose) files.

(for personal use that is by far the easiest option)

but, again, the model needs to be compatible (you will know if they are, when you try ;) ). That's something you can't just edit with fo4Edit. Nifskope might help in such cases, but in the worst case you need to redo the modeling and conversion etc. to a specific piece of armor in your case.

Amazing suggestion, I overlooked taking that route lol. Was to per-occupied tinkering with F04edit for the first time.

Unfortunately like you said I don't think these are compatible. That or I'm getting a weird quirk of Vortex where it leaves the "__Folder_managed_By_vortex" leaving nothing in my materials folder for me to manually replace the files.

I tried the Nifskope and that is probably going to have to be the solution for now. Swapping path in F04Edit didn't work and I ended up bricking my game due.
