I'm working on a small mod that will add a salt mine to the game. I've decided to take someones advice and instead of mining salt piles, the mod will allow you to mine rock salt. The rock salt will then be able to be refined at a smelter into salt piles. I'm new to modding, and tried to search for myself, and now I come to you. So my questions are as follows:

1) How do I add a new ore deposit to the game?

2) How do I add a new ore to the game?

3) How do I tell the smelter the Rock Salt is smeltable?

4) How do I tell the smelter the Rock Salt smelts into Salt Piles?

I appreciate as much help as I can possibly get.

Have you all seen my keys? I think they are here somewhere.

A lot of modding is coming up with the questions in the first place. I think, and by all means I'm no pro, that perhaps in CK if you look up say an Iron Ore deposit and make a duplicate entry for it renamed to Salt Deposit or such. Do the same thing for the Ore, name it Rock Salt. Then look up a guide on crafting mods and adding new recipes, from there you should be able to make a recipe to make Rock Salt into Salt Piles.

After you get the basics working then you could go look into texturing the Salt Deposit and Rock Salt so they don't look like say Iron Deposits or whatnot. From there you'd just have to add them to the world as you see fit.

Another idea would be to make an item that could collect salt out of sea water and evaporate the water via a fire spell to leave you with salt. Perhaps a Bottle or a jug which you can script a state to be empty, but then when tossed in the water equal filled, further more then when you "Flames" it, adds a few salt piles to your inventory and goes back to the empty state. Goodluck either way you go.

your welcome, hopefully it works out. let me know if you get it working as I always need more salt for my impressive cooking abilities. lol I was actually playing a character sneaking around in the chef's clothes leaving poisoned cupcakes around town for people to eat, your mod might allow me to make non poisoned food, it would taste probably less tangy though.

So far, it doesn't work. The mining animation starts with my character standing there for 3 seconds, then exits without having mined anything. I've tried all I could think of, and nothing works. I'll keep working at it, but at this point I have little hope.

I'll experiment a bit on this tomorrow. and see if i can figure something out. if you want you can send me what work you have so far and I'll take a look to see if I can find where you're having problems.
