[LE] Morrowind hit chance, animation triggers

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm seeking some general guidance as I'm pretty new to modding.

I was obsessed with getting a morrowind style hit chance into the game with animations that play on the "misses"... i've been looking at https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Papyrus stuff and through some of the source code. I looked at the Merhunes razor code to get an idea about the random chance code...don't know if that's if right.

But I'm a bit confused as to how you would actually put this into the game, would it be a magic effect script on the player and npcs? or like a cloak spell with a large radius? that does something with SetBaseDamage - Weapon onHit.

Also is it possible in the first place to make an npc play a custom additive animation when certain conditions are met?

Thanks any guidance would be great.

Thanks for the reply.

Would you know if its possible for it to fire off an animation event on the "misses" ? I guess since stagger mods where every hit staggers exist it would be possible but just non restrictive ( can still attack, move, etc ) I would have to mess around with the behavior files with zartar tool at that point right? or would the only option be to edit the stagger animations themselves to get the effect?

I don't know a lot about animations. I think yea you will need to see behavior files.

What would happen if you add the perk through a magic Effect(would only work for player) and attach a script on the effect?

There's this mod called Better Vampire NPCs where the vampires with blink perks can teleport behind the opponent when hit. You can also look at the vanilla mage Orchendor who can teleport when damaged. Looking at how both of these work can give you some insight as well I think.
