Make "Vault 88" the settlement for the Railroad (Mercer Safehouse)

Good evening everybody!

Usually I don't post mod requests ...

I tried to make this mod myself but I couldn't get it to work ...

What I want is this:

A mod that changes the location of the settlement that you need to secure for the railroad ("Mercer Safehouse") to be Vault 88.

In the normal game, the location gets chosen from a list of random settlements.

Why?

Because Vault 88 is a big underground location and the railroad likes secret places with more then one exit ...

Just taking a quick look at this, I wonder if creating a simple overide entry in FO4Edit to the FormID xx249DBA "RRR04ValidLocations", removing the old and adding Vault 88 might help. You'd have to add "DLCworkshop03" as a master, simple enough. I don't have any saves near this point to test.

I tried to add the V88 location to the formlist of "possible locations" and remove all the other possible locations.

Apparently it also checks for some keywords when choosing a settlement, so I added those to V88 as well.

But P.A.M. never gave me the quest to do Mercer Safehouse.

So apparently it didn't work ....

I might try some other stuff (like removing those keyword checks) ...

It seems the only real difference between Vault 88 and the other listed locations is the keyword "WorkshopType02AlwaysExclude". Other locations that share that keyword are The Castle, Bunkerhill, and the Airport. Seems like a "don't pick me" keyword.

edit: Also note the alias in the quest is looking for a "0", not a "1" for the workshoptype2 stuff, so it is looking for the entry to not have that keyword. I deleted hundreds of saves yesterday in a clean-up, otherwise I could test it. Either remove that check from the quest, or that keyword from vault 88 and go with that form id edit. "Should" (yeah, I know) work. Good luck.

I removed all the condition checks (except the "formlist" check) and it works!

Kind of ...

PAM gives me the quest to go and secure Vault 88.

But after using the workbench there and setting up some turrets (accoding to the FO4 wiki you need at least 10 defense at the location) the pipboy still says "secure vault 88 and use the workshop".

Instead of removing the checks, I would suggest you

1. alter the "RRR04ValidLocations" FormID to only include "DLC06Vault88Location "Vault 88" [LCTN:00003DDF]"

2. alter the DLCWorkshop03.esm > Location > "DLC06Vault88Location "Vault 88" [LCTN:00003DDF]" to remove "WorkshopType02AlwaysExclude [KYWD:00249FF8] .

When you took out the other conditions, the "safe" part of the quest is looking for an entry that you removed and cannot complete. I believe. The suggestion I made above might cause an issue with another quest choosing vault 88, like a Nuka-world raid or whatnot, but not that big of a deal.

edit: to be clear I mean edit a created override entry, not the base files themselves. Just in case.

Yeah, shows stage 200 as Build defenses (<Global=RRR04SafetyPercent>%) at <alias=ChosenWorkshopLocation, so make sure you didn't delete that condition.

another edit...: Yeah looking back at the RRR04 quest in FO4Edit, on the bottom condition list, 0, 1, 2, are required to complete that quest. 3 is for that workshop type 2 exclusion keyword, 4 is nukaworld tie in check, and 5 is to make sure you don't already have that workshop. Do NOT delete those. I wouldn't recommend messing with those conditions outside of the creation kit.

Look up the quest in the CK RRR04, if you look in the "alias" tab you'll see how a lot of it is structured. Part 200 of the quest is looking for the workshop location. If you remove the conditions, the quest cannot find that value. It doesn't know where to look.
