Failed To Set Game Mode Error

I'm using Vortex 1.4.15, trying to mod PAYDAY 2. I'm running Windows 10, (x86), with 16GB RAM. I previously installed PAYDAY 2 on my secondary drive (D:) but when I tried to 'activate' it on Vortex it gave me an error saying:

"Failed to set game mode"

I've installed a total of 20 mods across 2 games. No mods had been downloaded for PAYDAY. It was the first game I've installed a game on my (D:) drive and I thought that might be the issue. So I tried to move it's install location to my primary (C:) drive through steam, where all my other games are located. But Steam gave me an error saying "invalid install path" so I tried to copy the PAYDAY 2 game folder and move it to my (C:) drive. I then proceeded to delete all PAYDAY 2 files from my (D:) drive. Except when I started up my game, it said it couldn't launch because something was missing. So I completely uninstalled PAYDAY and reinstalled it. After it installed I went into Vortex, changed the PAYDAY 2 file location, because previously it was previously;

[(D:) New Volume > Program Files (x86) > PAYDAY 2]

So I moved it's location to where it's now downloaded

[(C:) Local Files > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > PAYDAY 2]

and then proceeded to 'activate' it on Vortex, except it still tells me, "Failed to set game mode"

I get this game set mode error when i try activating Fallout 4. My path to my game is: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4. The path to the mods is : D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Mods
What am i doing wrong?
The mods were installed from the game mod menu.

two questions

1. why would you post in a thread about a completely different game?

2. if you're using the in game mod menu, why are you using vortex?

Oh sry didn't realize this thread was for another game. I searched the error message i get, and this thread was the search result. Reason for wanting to use vortex is because the mod i want to use doesn't exist in the game mod menu.

1 I searched on the error message and the search result was this thread. I didn't search for a specific game cos the error message comes with any game i try.
2 I want to use nexus mods because the one i want don't exist in the game mod menu

Start a new thread about your specific problems, instead of hijacking this other person's thread. FFS

Ghee u'r a stingy f***er. Just to be clear. the title of this thread is Failed to set game mode error. (the same error message I get when I'm using vortex) And the thread is found under the menu The Nexus forums/ Vortex/ Vortex Support. And the author talks about multiple games as well so your point make no sense.

I'll explain to you why its a bad idea to simply append your issue on someone else's problem.

it keeps problems separate - while you may think they look the same - theres a very good probability that they're not.

when an issue is kept in isolation, you can work on it, knowing that there's no confusion in the threads because someone else came along with something similar, but not the same, and when they attempted the solution, it didn't work for them, so they come up with something like "tried it, it didn't work".

so a while later someone else comes along with another issue that's similar - and maybe the solution provided would work for them, but they see a post saying it doesn't work - so they move on having missed the solution.

Honestly, this is how all forums work and have since the dawn of time.

now since you created your post, you've replied back several times, but you've not bothered to create your own thread as you have been asked. if you're accessing the forum to reply I'll ask if you are aware that you can search the forum for posts that describe the error you're seeing, and going off and trying any of the recommended diagnostic steps they contain?

The search forum feature is not widely used but it is powerful and I'd recommend you try that to see if there are old posts out there that look similar to your issue, and if they contain diagnostic steps, try them and see how you go.

Another thing about a "me too" post is that the perception it provides is of someone who can't be bothered to follow some basic forum rules/requests that are designed to make everyone's life a little easier. if someone can't be bothered to follow those rules/requests, then why would someone be bothered to help?

Perception is powerful especially when it's all we've got, as internet forums are very good at masking intent/context etc. it is on you to show a bit of willing to comply wih the rules/requests/expectations in order to facilitate assistance.

this forum is full of posts where someone has come along and done a "me too" post - and that's it. they don't engage, or when they engage, its like they don't want to engage and the whole result is people trying to help get frustrated, the person with the issue gets frustrated and it degenerates very quickly. You can search this forum for that - its just the way it works. In short - "me too" posts are quite often frowned upon because they are mostly irrelevant, add confusion and derail threads. that isn't the meaning of them, but its simply one of the unintended consequences.

if you start a new thread where you describe your issues, there's a really good sticky post from one of the community managers showing what details you need to provide. this is an excellent starting point because it allows you to give up all the information that people need to help you in one go. i'd advise you open a new thread, copy that sticky into it and put your information into it and see what occurs.

one final thing;

the help here is voluntary. its free. its well meaning and in a high percentage of cases - it works.

what doesn't work, and i mean really it has a 100% failure rate, is to come into these forums, do a "me too" post and follow that up with insults to posters who are really trying to help you. passive/aggressive posts, with bold and large font sizes used to emphasize also don't work. The people trying to help you know what the message says - they don't need to be reminded in such a hostile manner.

So please, if you really want help, open a new thread as you have been requested, use the sticky to ensure all the details are provided, use the search forum feature to look for potential diagnostics you can attempt yourself, and give people a chance to help you as best as they can. if you do that, i assure you someone will help you and get you fixed up.
