Stutter when turning camera, but not when 'auto-rotate' -ing around character

Hey all,

So, an issue. When I look around in first or third person I get two types of lag/stutter. My fps is stable ish around 60 (and currently limited because my monitor refresh rate is 60).

  • One is a lag that htches the turn of the camera for a half/quarter second and is more common when looking at certain things or in certain directions, though I can't work out what these things actually are. It's reliable in areas eg, looking out the N gate of riverwood or at the gate beside where the khajiit camp in whiterun.
  • The other type is a microstutter that blurs the world whenever I turn the camera. Doesn't matter where I am, never better or worse.

Happens with or without mods, old or new save. I use beth ini to change settings, sse engine fixes is enabled. Tried with two different mice and mousepads, connection methods (wired/wireless).

Mice and monitors are a bit old. Laptop is fairly new.

Specs: i7 10750H, 16gb ram, RTX 3060 laptop gpu: early 2021 basic razer blade

I looked around and I think it looks like a lot of people have a similiar issue, but no fix I've tried has resolved it. I think the fact that the camera rotation mode that happens without input for a while is really smooth may indicate something....

More detail, more testing:

The microstutter is definitely worse when moving diagonally (forward and right / left) and looking around at the same time???

I tested on my laptop monitor which is 144k hz, and the microstuttering is worse at higher fps.

Using skyrim performance monitor, it looks like I'm using a max of around 4gb vram at a time

Anyone with ideas I appreciate it!
