I find vanilla companion AI in Fallout 4 pretty stupid.

There is something in it that makes NPCs ignore the enemies until they get shot in the face.

They are just incapable of attacking first,you can't even command them to attack the enemy before the enemy becomes aware of your presence.

Plus the way they ignore reality completely when you tell them to STAY.

I don't know if it was always a thing or it was introduced in one of the updates.

I've seen some dialogue in CK which implies companions supppose to warn you about approaching hostiles and watch your back, but it didn't end up in the actual game.

The most annoying it gets during Automatron playthrough. What is the point of building a powerful robot if they are going to be so useless at protecting youand will just watch you get obliterated with a mini nuke?

I tried mods like UCF and AFT, but all of their options for recruiting NPCs are doing it by making them an actual companion. I made multiple test and it is in fact this companion thing which is making them so blind and deaf. The moment you dismiss them they immediately become aware of the enemiesnearby.

So the only option I see is the mod that will make NPCs follow you without making them an actual companion.

If there are such mods out there - I couldn't find them, please tell me if you know.
