What is the most versatile combat style that you can add to an NPC in the construction set? What do I mean by versatile? I mean what is the the combat style that enables the NPC to perform the most actions for the most interesting fights. For example; drinking potions, blocking if they have a shield, pulling out a staff, using certain types of spells etc.... If you know any notable styles that are good to try out, list them below!

Well you can most likely add any combos really. If you add spells, weapons and potions to the NPC, he will use them but only if you also put up the right skills. You can make them really perfect I assure you. Drinking potions is not a skill though... Maybe it is possible to force an NPC to use potions if the right conditions is set in a script as well or spells? I do think we equip the potions.

A NPC is not bound to specific classes as those are only templates anyway...

I don't know if there's a mean to create a class that makes the NPC's use anything but I know the combat style is important, just take a look at the way an archer fights compared to a mage or a melee fighter.

The vanilla mages drink potions and aren't scripted at all.

And what do you mean with the classes? Of course the class matters since it determines the most developed skills when you auto-calculate a NPC's stats for example when it is leveled.

Well OA, you do choose a class, no doubt but if you want that class to have a skill it usually do not use nor know, then you set that skill to 100 and you sure have changed that class and then it was only a template to start with, simple as that. The only limits is the game engine I bet.

The only thing you change this way is the NPC's stats which is only useful if you want your NPC's to reach the master level in a big lot of skills and/or if you don't want your NPC's to have auto-calculated stats for example if you don't want their level to depend of the player's.
