Vortex Window size.

QOL Suggestion:

It appears that I cannot manually change the width of columns dynamically, so to get around this and to be able to see all the columns at once, I like to stretch the window across two displays.

The problem is, that when not maximized, the Vortex window will partially drop underneath the taskbar.

Which means, that some information, is covered up.

I am not able to adjust the height below 1080 pixels. (I have both monitors set to 1920x1080.)

The width can be adjusted below 1920 which is fine.

I would rather not have to move the taskbar, or set it to autohide.

Is it possible to lower the minimum height allowed by this application? Maybe to around 900 pixels high? This would allow me to also raise the height of my taskbar as well if desired.

Thank you for your consideration.

Getting lost in the details is the OPs original problem.

He wants to resize individual parts of the UI, like make the Mod Name field narrower. This would let him make other fields wider.

This is a reasonable Feature request, if he files it as such.

And he can do that by going to SETTINGS---->THEME---->Selecting Compact, and using the MARGIN Sliders.

You can use a theme to control minimum and maximum sizes for columns but yes, that's not particularly convenient.

I'm assuming the request is then more for a way to drag the dividers between table columns. The problem is that this is basically mutually exclusive with auto-sizing columns.

If you look at how this then works in applications that do this (e.g. windows explorer) you can have free space and truncated columns at the same time:

Combine that with the potential to filter the table or add and remove columns frequently and you'll be constantly resizing the columns to your current need.

I felt it was more reasonable to have the theme set sensible boundaries per column and let the auto-sizing take care of the rest, even if that means less manual control. If you have a different preference, there is a ticket on our github (https://github.com/Nexus-Mods/Vortex/issues/2430) where you can show your support so it gets considered for the next bigger ui redesign.

SETTINGS---->THEME---->Select COMPACT

It will make the fonts smaller so you can see more on the vortex screen

Compact sets font size to 12 so without cloning that and lowering it more, it doesn't really help. Lowering the font size is not an option. And I should be able to increase the font size and have the ability to resize the window and the columns.

Basically I do not want auto-sizing columns. That just doesn't work for me. Allowing items to wrap around to use more lines when the columns are shrunk is ok. I need to be able to adjust column width manually.

There is no way the height for the Vortex window will go lower than 1080. This is the only program on my system, Windows 10, that I know of where resizing the height of the window does not work. Right clicking the task bar and trying to adjust the height has no effect. Works fine with other programs.

Yes, it would be fine if this were considered as a possible feature in the future.

Thank you.

Edit again: And thanks for the link to Github where I was able to add my vote.

Something strange in your report.

My display is 1920 x 1080.

I can shrink my Vortex display vertically to about 2/3 the vertical space, so about 700 or so...

I can shrink it horizontally to roughly half - so about 1000.

My resulting window resolution is about 1000 x 700.

You sure you have your Vortex window set to resizable - and not full screen?

Yes. I used to work at Microsoft Hardware. I do know how to use Windows.

My resolution also set at 1920x1080. All other windows for other programs resize properly.

This one does not resize in the vertical.

The horizontal shrinks a bit. To a size a bit over 3/4 total size.

If the window was set to full screen, I would not be able to resize it at all.

I did try backing everything up and re-installing Vortex. Nothing changed.

I did not try to clean anything though before re-installing.

Maybe an old Registry setting messed up during an update? I guess I can look there.

Also thinking of setting my display to the 4k mode. See how that works.

Edit: No real difference. Also tried changing themes to/from compact and default. No difference.

Nothing in Registry that would appear to affect any of this. Resize is hardcoded in program so didn't expect anything anyway.
