Then somewhere a custom patch I made to add the new well from the latest version of ETaC that hasn't made it into the WFW ETaC patch yet (Karthwasten, I think).

You are right. "Water From Wells" first,  #2 "LS - WfWP" is not required when overridden by #4 "LSW - WfWF", last any custom patches to convert added wells to "LSW - WfWF" wells with activator. I should clarify installation instructions in my mod.

I don't seem to be able to pick up the Rain Barrel after placing it. Usually I'd expect a "Pick up" option on activation, but I only have Drink, Refill and Exit. Is there supposed to be another way to do it? Can I add the option through SSEEdit somehow?

If you activate it while sneaking, you'll have the option to pick it up.
