Mod Idea I've had for a while (Thinking about attempting)

For the longest time, a single quest in Skyrim has been the bane of my existence, and in 10 years it seems nobody has really done an overhaul to this particular quest in a way that accomplished what I was looking for.

So, House of Horrors.... I hate this quest. You get recruited to exorcise an abandoned house of demons (which any brave adventurer would probably agree to) then suddenly WHAM! Before you know it you're the champion of the lord of domination Molag Bal. How did this happen? How did we arrive at this point...? Well I've thought of a (relatively) simple way to approach this as a quest mod:

  • -The quest goes normally. You enter the house, spooky scary things occur and you're forced to kill Tyranus.
  • -You follow the voice down to the basement
  • -Except instead of being trapped, I want to cut out that entire following section from the game. No going to kill whoever that Priest of Boethia is. Instead you find the shrine in disrepair. Molag Bal's influence here is by comparison limited rn.
  • -Approach the shrine (no cage happens)
  • -A dialogue activator pops up. You as the player are given the option to destroy the shrine (in which it gets replaced with rubble, OR restore the shrine which could perhaps function as a player home or base for a possible Molag Bal worshipper in the city. As a possible reward for restoring the shrine, you are given the choice to gain vampirism.
  • End Quest
  • -As for the Mace of Molag Bal as a possible future idea (this might require some patches, I would imagine) I was thinking that the rusty mace would be somewhere on the floor, and upon completion of the quest or a potential unmarked subquest (where maybe you use the mace to kill so and so after restoring the shrine) it becomes the Mace of Molag Bal.

Stuff with the Mace and restoring the shrine though is where I would usually run into the problem of feature creep and where I most often end up deciding to abandon the project. I don't want to have to go out of my way to hire a voice actor or anything like that. I would say I'm moderately experienced in the GECK (Modding New Vegas, at least enough to know my way around it. I've not made anything super impressive though), FNVedit, SSEdit, etc. I don't think I would have trouble figuring all of this out if I devoted enough time to it, anyways. Though I wanted to get some advice if this sounds like a reasonable thing to attempt? And as a follow-up question, any decent tutorials you could link me related to building dynamic player homes like that?

I'm not sure how to spawn in objects with an activator but I assume it would be something like: have a script triggered to enable the object's formID?

The reason I'm posting is because I wanted some advice about perhaps keeping the scope of this idea I had limited. Would appreciate thoughts, feedback, suggestions, etc.

Thanks!
