Check for Updates for Non-installed Mods

I think this is quite an annoying downgrade from NMM. I don't always have every mod installed as I like to give them more time to develop. Or I have Skyrim uninstalled for a bit but like to keep my mods up to date and just enjoy reading mod updates.

Why can't Vortex detect new version of mods without them being installed first?

you can do that if a mod is disabled, but if a mod is not installed - how can any mod manager know its there and to check for updates? i mean i know that nmm was the best mod manager ever but thats like quantum leap.

The fact is that NMM could do it. Full stop.

Vortex should be able to do it too imo.

Have you tried with a full update scan rather than the default quick scan?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have tried this. Just immediately finishes as if I've downloaded no mods.

you say "fact" but i used the worlds greatest mod manager before going to vortex, and it didn't check for stuff that wasn't installed.

i mean, just think about it.

i have a fallout game with 300 something mods in it. if vortex then checked everything i didn't have installed, it's checking thousands of mods for updates i don't want, or care about.

Just to stop this silliness, are you talking about mods that have been downloaded with Vortex, are visible in the Mods tab but have not been installed or enabled in your game?

Because if that is the case then Vortex should have all the necessary metadata for the mod and should be capable of checking for updates, even without the mod being installed to the game or enabled. All the needed info is acquired during the download.

If NMM checked for updates on mods even when they weren't installed to the game it seems perfectly reasonable to ask why Vortex doesn't do the same. Perhaps there is a setting that needs to be changed to make it work?
