Companion Makeovers?

I've been looking for mods that can change your companions looks, but all I have been able to find are advanced methods such as using new programs and things like that.

Back on Oblivion, I was able to make certain mods myself using files from the game so I used to be able to handle such things, but I've been out of that for a long while now and I just want to be able to use the creations of all the wonderful modders on here with out having to learn anything complicated.

So for companions, there is a ton that look amazing, but maybe I won't like their hair, or maybe I'd want to change it for Role Playing reasons. I had the idea, for a mod that hopefully is something simple.

The idea is giving Galathil, the surgery performer in Riften, the option to perform surgery on your companion as well.

I don't know the means to do this myself, an i feel it's not that hard, but again I don't know. I only hope It's not to difficult as this would make my life a little simpler.

Any one think that they could manage or try something like this?

I want to thank every one that takes the time to read this.

(sorry if i reply slow to any responses that come,

I am currently looking up mods an playing the game.)

Is this just a topic that is over looked? or is there already a mod that simplifies follower makeovers?

If the idea to give the surgery performer the option to perform on your follower is to hard or something, I'd like to know an be able to discuss other ideas, I'd prefer not to have to use NPC editing programs. It would be much easier to simply pay the performer some gold, an have the race menu pop up for your follower.

Do you even realize what you are saying? Don't get me wrong, the basic idea is very nice and interesting.

Here's what's wrong -

> There's a reason why other programs are required to mod NPCs, it's all tied down to the engine of the game. It's embedded to the game's core itself.

> changing the facial presets of the NPCs on the fly would theoretically require new facegen data to be created, therefore it would mean that certain "changes" have to be made in your PC's folder structure by the mod

> I don't know of any mod for Skyrim that has the ability to create folders and put new data in it while you're playing the game. I doubt such a thing even exists in the community.

> And this is just for tweaking nose width and such, mind you. If you're talking about custom textures for skin and new hairstyles, then again new folders will have to be made by this mod and new facegen data would have to be chained with it.

> Not to mention that within the facegen nif, the texture path would have to be changed so that it seeks out the custom textures instead of vanilla ones.

And all of this has to happen "on the fly"!!! Meaning while you interact with the surgeon, and change your follower's appearance, all of the above processes would have to run in the background while you play your game!

See what the problem is? It just can't happen with the Bethesda engine's framework! :(

Like i said, I have no idea how some mods are made. The things I've worked with was simply making a house from files already made in the game itself.

Thank you for explaining why this can't work. I guess i will just have to download some kind of program or just deal with how they look.

- On a side note, I just recently found a mod called "Better Followers". When you go to install it, there are some options which include changing facial features. I have not been able to test it out, for i thought it was something like AFT and made it so that you can change things by talking to them, however it has something to do with the Followers that it installs. so to any one that reads this and wants something like that, you can check that out.

Thanks again Crescendo.

(P.S. - Sorry if anything in this post made me sound arrogant or anything, again i do not

have an extensive amount of knowledge in the creation of mods.)

> Having the ability to change features while "installing" the mod is totally different than a mod that has the framework to dynamically alter your system's folder structure and put/remove new data while "playing the game"

> to fully understand the concept, try making a few npcs yourself with custom textures from the CK, since you've already tried it. There are a few tutorials that exist here on nexus that'll guide you but none will till you how to properly package a release-ready mod.

My statements were made purely within the limits of my knowledge and experience with the CK and Skyrim in general.

Hope I didn't step on any toes, stranger.

Not at all, again thank you for the information, knowing this I'll be more mindful of any requests I may have in the future.

You don't have to restrain yourself from asking about anything in the forums. That's the whole point!

People generally don't reply to new topics, mainly because some topics are just not worth replying to.

But you had a very interesting idea and I won't be surprised if in the near future some modding wiz comes up with even just the framework, the foundation on which these ideas can be implemented by others.

Cheers!
