Vortex does NOT enable ESPs from installed mods

I am really tired of this, honestly. I always start to report mod problems until I cancel the reporting because I realise that the Plugin is disabled.

So I am asking if Vortex can be updated to ENABLE esp files that are installed when enabling a mod! Everytime I install and enable a mod, I ALWAYS need to check the Plugins tab to make sure you've enabled the ESP file. Seriously, that's not very automated and very disturbing. And the amount of time wasted to open Skyrim, load a game to realise that this mod is indeed enabled but NOT the plugin, I need to close the game and reload again. After over a year of endurance, I got tired today of experiencing this issue so now I am putting a post for someone to do something about it.

AND, if it's a config I need to have enabled for this to happen, well, it's very unclear as to what I need to activate for plugins to enable themselves once a mod has been enabled.

So this was my complaint of the day, thank you!

TEMPORARY SOLUTION: See this post lower on this page.

Are you saying that when you install a mod, and then click the button to enable it (turn it green), it is NOT enabling the plugins for that mod?

Because I have never, ever had that occur.

Exactly, BUT, some mods get enabled but I'd say 1 times out of 2, the ESP does not get enabled because other mods get enabled so it's a dice roll to know if the mod get's enabled in the plugins or not. So yeah, that's exactly what I am saying.

EDIT: I must say that I do not enable my mods in 2 steps. I configured Vortex to enable the mods on install. This may be a hint in a possible bug for automatic enabling on install.

OK, you have Vortex set to ENABLE on install, however, do you have Vortex set to also DEPLOY on install?

Are you seriously saying you've been doing this for a YEAR?

I mean, don't you click around inside Vortex, to see if there's a setting somewhere, perhaps in the SETTINGS tab?

Click around and see what you can find.

Do you have any specific mods this always happens with?

Happens with all mods, no mods are spared.

Exactly, Enable mod on Install but Deployment is done manually.

More than a year, yes. An YES, I did indeed check all options to see if I may have passed over something but no options ring a bell as to what would cause an ESP file to NOT enable itself when a mod is enabled. The only setting I found to maybe have something to do is in the "Workaround" tab and it's for EXTERNAL esp files that have not been added by Vortex. I'll enable this option and see if it still happens, but this option should not make any changes to that and if it does, it clearly is not explained properly.

i mean, honestly, i don't know where to start. quite simply, vortex does what you claim it doesn't do. why it doesn't for you makes me think you've disabled some options that are enabled out of the box.

in particular - your settings tab - what do you see when you look at the following under the AUTOMATION heading;

  • deploy mods when enabled - you can set this to ON so that mods are auto-deployed
  • install mods when downloaded - i personally keep this disabled, but you can have vortex auto-install a mod as soon as its successfully downloaded
  • enable mods when installed (in current profile) - set this to ON and any mod that you install will be auto-enabled. my own preference here is, if i am building out a new load order for a new game, i disable this and manually enable the mods i want/need for that load order. however, i'd suggest keeping this enabled as it removes a couple of manual steps that trip everyone up at some point because people aren't fully conversant with the concept of staging folders/mod deployment/mod enablement.

The next thing you should check is on your plugins page - ensure AUTOSORT is enabled. This will request that Vortex resort your plugin load order as soon as you add mods that have plugins as part of their manifest. Vortex has an interface to LOOT to try and ensure your plugins are sorted correctly.

Check those settings because at least one of them isn't active and that's causing you this year-long manual effort.

If they're not disabled, then we'd need to dig a little deeper and you may need to send feedback/bug reports to the developers - but honestly - just some basic maths tells me that you're the only person who has this issue based on messages in the vortex forums and the GIT pages for Vortex, which in turn tells me that there's something missing in your local set up.

I found the Nature of the bug!

I the "Settings" under the tab "Workarounds"

In the "Plugins" section, you need to enable "Enable externally added plugins automatically"

So this option is not clear because we presume that EXTERNAL addition means that these files are NOT added via Vortex. I always disabled that option as it permitted me to create mods without Vortex enabling them when they were half way done. But if you disable that option, 1 times out of 2, the ESP files will not activate when installing a mod in the Mods section.

So this solution is temporary but viable for those having the same issue.
