Solid State Hard drives

Recommended Posts

What do you think of the new solid state hard drives out now, they say in games can give a full 0.2ghz to your gaming rig, i am going to purchase one myself.

check it out, it has only a 120gb capacity but that's all i need for all my games that would take full advantage of that drive, like Crysis and Fall out 3, and so fourth.

I'm waiting a year or two to allow the technology to improve, the capacity to increase and the prices to come down. For me the real bonuses are the lack of moving parts. No more hard drive ratteling away.

My Raptor drives are the noisiest part of my system.

Yea they are expensive right now, but if you are wanting be ahead of the game so to speak its worth it lol.

but for the average user i suggest you wait atleast a year, tell there prices come down.

man searching the web the price of an ssd 128gb hard drive can go around 1000$ cad wow.

up top is a bargain lol

The only reason that the price is so high is because it doesn't use as much power, lasts longer and the file transfer rate.

Not worth it in my eyes, not even a year or 5 later lol.

I have not looked into for personal use but I am purchasing them with an IBM Blade rack and intend on having the OS run off the SSD drives and the virtual servers off the SAN.

One of my guys showed me a video of somebody that built the "fastest" PC ever made using the maximum amount of SSDs you could run in a RAID configuration and if it wasn't not faked, it certainly was impressive.

Right now, the cost is a bit too prohibitive for personal use as it is still bleeding-edge technology and the price clearly verifies that. As others have said, it might be best to wait for the prices to come down but if you have money to burn, have at it.

Good point. This section of the forum does not really get a lot of attention...and as I recently pointed out, I haven't even gone into this section of the forum until very recently. ;)
