MikeCobalt Posted January 12, 2022 Share Posted January 12, 2022 Hey everybody :), Planning on getting Oblivion GOTY Deluxe I'm at the decision do I download it or get a Physical copy from a store? 1st priority do either run better? about the same, or Downloaded/Store runs better (Less bugs, needed work around's, reliability and finally the Mods). If you choose to go digital, I'd suggest GoG.com because the Galaxy software is optional once you have installed the game, unlike Steam which has to be always on. Important to mention as well: Storebought versions work fine, but they usually only have the base game, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, whereas most digital versions also have the smaller DLC like Mehrunes Razor, Spell Tomes, etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When the folks at GOG started offering Oblivion as a download they took care of patching Oblivion.exe with the 4GB patch so the end user doesn't need to do that themselves. None of the disk versions of the game come already patched with the 4GB patch, and as far as I know none of the various downloads of Oblivion from Steam are 4GB patched. That means for any version of the game except the GOG version you will need to run the 4GB patch yourself after you install the game. Be very careful with any of the various Steam downloads to be certain you are actually getting the version that includes all of the DLC ... I've seen posts by many people who thought they were getting the full meal deal from Steam but only got some of the major DLCs with the download they chose (i.e. they were missing most of the minor DLCs). One last question just to be certain; The GOG version does take all the Mods (Mostly from here) like the Steam version? I'm no fan of Steam (Quite the opposite) but I do know what has worked before. Striker879 Posted January 14, 2022 Share Posted January 14, 2022 I don't have first hand knowledge about the GOG version (I'm a disk version dinosaur) but yes, from what I have seen reported all mods will work with the GOG version. Generally the two factors that limit being able to run specific mods comes down to the ability to use Oblivion Script Extender (OBSE) and the ability to use more than 2 GB of memory for the graphic intensive mods. The GOG version ticks the 4GB memory box right off the start as the version from GOG comes already patched for you. If you look at the second pinned comment in the OBSE comments you will see that one of the OBSE current developers has confirmed that the GOG version is compatible with the lastest version OBSE.
