Unofficial Skyrim Patch - do I need it?

I've been playing Skyrim 1.9.32 for about 140 hours and whereas I've noticed a few oddities here and there, there's been nothing really horrible.

So I'm wondering if I install and the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, will it make my gameplay experience that much better, like will I say "geez, why did I not do this 120 hours ago?" or will it not really make that much of a difference?

I've got the Nexus Mod Manager and I can fuss with my load order if I have to, I suppose ... but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Technically, you don't "need" it. However, it's definitely a must have mod. You would be amazed at how many bugs are still left in the vanilla game even after the numerous official patches. USP (unofficial skyrim patch) helps prevent save bloat, messed up quests targets, eventual CTD's with long-term play, and so much more. It won't hurt your game at all by installing it (by 'hurt, I mean conflict with anything else). It's a very clean mod, and extremely useful. It's not that large of a download, so go ahead and install it. It'll make your life a lot easier in the long run, and possibly more.

I have all the unofficial patches and couldn't imagine what the game would be like without them. I've played a glitched free Skyrim for over a year and half cause of those patches! I say, get em now! Don't wait!!!

They fix a lot of things, but they are also a source of some grief as they "fix" some things that are not really broken, basically saying "we have decided that there are some things that aren't really bugs but we think they should be different anyway and your only choice is to not use our mod if you don't like it."

I do appreciate a lot of what the patches fix. But I do tend to scratch my head at some of the things that they fixed that didn't need to be. Like enchanting items. Why they messed with that is beyond me. But, eh. Depends on how much you can tolerate the changes I guess.

well, it fixed two things that I had kind of written off, but already deeply appreciate in less than an hour's play -- there appear to actually BE things in strongboxes now (I'd found maybe ten of them before with NEVER anything in them), and now when my Bound Bow kills an enemy and captures its soul, the capture soul animation plays, whereas before it did not. Sweet!

So far it's a winner, if not a complete game-changer.

How did they break/fix enchanting? Yes, I read the change notes, but nothing seems too egregiously bad in there.

It's more good than bad. They over-nerfed the Fortify Restoration stacking exploit by making FR not work on items at all, but there's a mod that fixes that. They also removed hair item / head item stacking, which you could use to a variety of interesting effects including wearing 5 alchemy enhancement items at once. That I figure is a bug, as there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to Falmer helmets being among the most powerful items in the game. The Jagged Crown, maybe, but Falmer helmets?

There's some other silly changes, like, "We didn't think ebony ore belonged in this mine so we moved it to that one," but silly as they are they don't really diminish or fundamentally alter the game so I don't much care. The bug fixes are very nice, so the patch is overall worthwhile.
