Can someone please make a video tutorial on how to import custom helmet meshes into Elder Scrolls Oblivion?

I been trying to figure this out for years.

Here's a couple pictures of a custom helmet I been wanting to make for Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I was able to mod it into other games like Sims and Kenshi and even GTA

^that is how it's supposed to fit on the character & here's a picture of the mesh file it's self. I been trying to mod it into Elder Scrolls Oblivion so my character in the game can wear it. But I can't figure out how to do that. I been trying to find a good tutorial for that, but all the tutorials I managed to find either don't have pictures, are really old/out-dated, or aren't really clear enough.

I'm asking if anyone can make a video tutorial showing exactly how they would mod a custom helmet into elder scrolls oblivion. or a picture tutorial, so i can learn how to do it myself. you could film it with this: https://obsproject.com/

A video tutorial would be the easiest option because i could see how to do everything. I already know how to make a 3d mesh/mdel but i just don't know how to attach it to the players head in the game & how to make it spawn in the game either.

Can someone please help teach me how to do that?

It shouldn't be too difficult because I did that before with the sims 2 & kenshi.

(this is how i learned it for the sims 2:

)

(this is how I learned it for Kenshi: https://steamcommunity.com/app/233860/discussions/3/1699415798755910859/ )

^If only I could find a tutorial like that for modding helmets into oblivion....

But i also wanted to mod it into skyrim and morrowind too, but we can focus on oblvion for now.

Can someone please make a video or picture tutorial on how to do that please?

I think I did answer this. I cannot make a video but I can make a written tutorial instead.

You need to make the hat from scratch as we are not allowed to port stuff from other games and you make it with Blender, from https://www.blender.org/

You need a nif exporter for Blender and also Nifskope: http://www.niftools.org/

So when you are ready to get started, we go and I guide you.

Yo learn Blender, well make a sword, from this tutorial and you will learn it quickly:

Nifskope? Tutorial:

that hat actually IS created by me. I modded it into the other games myself & I was trying to figure out how to put it into oblivion.

It Definately was not made by any game company... it's my trademark that I wear in all of my selfies & youtube videos: https://joewinkothehorrormoviedirector.tumblr.com/post/190761829015/pictures-of-joe-winko

had to clarify that...

I'll try following the tutorials soon. someone actually already had imported it into Oblivion but I'm trying to figure out how to modify it so it's tighter around my head to resemble the real life version of it.

i'll try following the tutorials you gave me... i'll post here if I have any questions...

So damn cooool :D I love that video and your hat :D

I did not knew it was a real hat :D

To get the hat fit perfect, you need to add more files with the same name as your hat. Lets see what files a hat, helmet or head are using and I can only list the file types as I do not know exact what they do, only that it will make stuff fit perfect on different sizes of heads and maybe it is enough to just copy one and rename it to your hat.

  • Helmet.NIF - The helmet you use
  • Helmet.EGM - Makes the helmet fit on any head
  • Helmet_GND - Helmet on the ground, or in a shelf or where ever you put it.

Take any head or helmet egm file and add it in the directory where you helmet is. Lets call your helmet StarBoyHat.NIF as that is what we use here in Sweden every 13th December when we celebrate the Saint Lucia nd it is only Swedes and Italians that do that and the girls hair is on fire and the boys uses your hat. You see them in the background, behind the burning girls on fire.

lucia.jpg

So in your directory you will have:

  • StarBoyHat.NIF
  • StarBoyHat.EGM

By the way, I am impressed you actually will look at the tutorials I provide, as that happens very rarely... Keep up the good work :D

By the way, when the girls sings, they will sing songs similar to the one I sing here so here I am in action, in person, singing a song that only sings between 13th-24th December, a song written 120 years ago. More details about it in the text below the video. It is 4 months to lkate for this, but hey... we talk about hats we use 13th December so it will never fit better than here now at this very moment: :D Enjoy

Many complains over that they cant hear what I sing about and that is the whole thing: I am atheist and that lyrics is Religious about the birth of Christ, and i hate those lyrics as they feel so wrong for me personal, but it is the best Christmas song ever made anyway so I couldn't resist making it. Imagine the girls singing this when they are on FIIIIRE!!!

The hat I am using, looks like your hat really :O

I have not heard myself for a long time, so here is one more :D

I was actually planning on editing the mod someone else made for me in Oblivion. the download link to it is right here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/11036753-can-someone-please-mod-this-mesh-in-as-a-custom-helmet-or-hat-into-elder-scrolls-oblivion/

it's just the bottom/base part of the hat i wanted to make tighter so it fits around my character's head more really. I imagine it shouldnt be too difficult to edit the 3d mesh file of the mod

It does not work that way with hats. It works that way with anything else or rather EVERYTHING else but not hats. You must use the egm file. Test it. As you will never get it to fit.

Think about it. Your hat or any hat fits on any race, size and age and mood of the wearer. :D It is only possible when you use an EGM file, so copy any toyour directory as I did mentioned and make sure they have the same name:

YourHat.NIF

YourHat.EGM

Just do it...

IF the hat then needs adjustments, then we take a peek to it.

Then we load an Imperial head into Blender and add your hat on it and make it fit perfect and I guess that is what the maker did for you as the Imperial head and body is the base for everything else.

Hats and heads have been debated many times at this forum, which I guess you missed. Every time the helmet will not fit and every time we tell the author of the helmet to add EGM to it and it works every time.

a bit confusing but i think i might be getting it..

what my plan was, was to extract the 3d file from the mod that someone on the form already created, then modify the mesh so it's tighter around the character's head and reshape it (possibly by exporting a 3d model of my player/character from oblivion to model it around his head so it fits properly since only he will be wearing it)

and then reimport it back into the game.

it's just that im not sure on how to attach it to the bones. is that done in nifscope? im not sure if the tutorial you linked covered how to do that. i didnt watch the whole video, but from what i seen it only seems to be modifying plain objects and not objects that the characters wear.

You cannot edit your character in a 3D program, you can only edit the base and the base is still Imperial. The EGM file will do the job still. Why do you not try it?

I have been thinking exact as you do but reilized it does not work that way when I load the available heads and bodies into Blender. The EGM file are attached to every helmet and head for a reason, not just for fun.

Try this egm now. I will not go further with this until you tried it. :/

DL to an egm.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qgb0cUhhmXVUUrPRc6mPL3ISQF8OEwe5/view?usp=sharing

And ones more: If the helmet still do not fit perfect with the egm, than we will edit your bandana in Blender, but we might not like the result as this problem is still not new. It repeats it self every time some one make helmets, hairs or whatever. Read what I write and think about it. The EGM is the bloody glue between the head and whatever you put on it. DL any bloody helmet or hair, and you will see every one has egm files next to the NIF. You must do the same. You cannot do otherwise than what is set in stone. Nothing is impossible for sure, but some stuff follow some rules.

I been modding 3D for 18 years. I know some about this... So you should really follow my advices as I start to feel I waste my time here when you do not try what I suggest you to try.

Try to export your char? How? I do not know. If you succeed, load it into Blender with the Blender NIF importer from NifTools Project but do that if the egm does not work, only than as that is 30 times faster and easier, no 4786 times faster and easier. Remeber, the head and body is separate. They are not even at the same place in CS... Heads are special, think about it... Again...

If this was Mortrowind, YES, In Morrowind everything is static, even heads and bodies, I guess... Well Better heads comes in ONE single size, one head for each race. EGM did not cpme until 2006 and a lot of new stuff came 2006 ythat drove us in the Modding community nuts. The simple way of making stuff in Morrowind was gone and we needed to learn new stuff. You think Morrowind when you should think. Damn those guys needed to reinvent the bloody wheel... Maybe they know stuff? Maybe they learned work arounds the hard way? YES!!!!

Better heads for Morrowind has 3-5 separate heads for each race.

Oblivion use the same head for Bretons and Imperials and another for all elves, 3rd for th orch and separand separate for Khajiit and Argonaons. That is 5 DYNAMIC heads all together. 6 with Dremora.
