charwo Posted September 3, 2013 Share Posted September 3, 2013 I mod out the NCR flags and replace them with commonwealth ones. Then its a no brainer. Even if you count the NCR as a successor to the US rather than continuance, NCR is as close to America as it gets. Of course....if the Enclave got over the Nazi crap, then Enclave. I don’t think that we should like a long side with mutants and ghouls. I will use the term purify because that’s what it comes down to in the end. These creatures should not live among us and they are a direct threat to the true American way of life. I wouldn’t live along side with these highly radiated freaks. I will do my duty and end their suffering and exterminate every last one of them. They weren’t supposed to set foot in this world anyhow. Plus, a good chunk of the ghoul population are pre-war American citizens. Presumably, many are armed forces veterans. And ghoulification is a constant health hazard for surviving humans, even the so-called prime normals, because the immediate post-war ghoulification process would have been impossible otherwise. AnvilOfWar Posted September 24, 2013 Share Posted September 24, 2013 I'm partial to the Independant's, keeping New Vegas for example it's own territory (free of Mr House as well) is usually my stance. It seems to me that nationalism and the big pre-war countries of the world are what was responsible for what happened to the globe 200~ years ago with the Great War. So let's not make the same mistakes again. The NCR looks to expand and seems to step on the "little guys", the Legion just wishes to conquer for it's own sake, the Enclave is at least now scattered and "broken" as a power, and the Brotherhood well... if they spent half the time as they do going after pre-war weapons, and invested some energy into "the masses" I'd like them better. Seeing as the character I RP as is the toughest motherf*#@ing new-world paladin white-knight goody-two-shoes deathclaw-brawling sniper-f*#@ing diplomatic terminator, he's the only one I'd trust the fate of the wasteland to. The only faction I'd support completely is anything resembling Lyon's Pride. New Vegas is just so morally ambiguous that I dont like choosing ANY side. Caesar's Legion is just ridiculously backwards, hell, the only reason they haven't been completely wiped out is because they actually went against their own moral code. NCR is far from perfect. NCR feels like Obsidian's edgy statement against the US government. Theres ALWAYS an ulterior motive. When you think you're helping the faction that wants to help the people, you're actually helping the "greedy fat-cats" that just care about their "nation" under the veil of "by the people, for the people." Im not just rambling here. The peaceful, pro-NCR ending to Cass's quest is a RIDICULOUS example of this, as well as the fact that the NCR would've just let the Legion take over the Mojave if it werent for either A. Hoover Damn. B. Helios 1. or C. If taking over that area gave the Legion a population that is just large enough to cause a threat to the NCR. This is the biggest pet peeve I have about New Vegas' story compared to 3's; You choose to help either: The rich, snobby asshole thats living in the past trying to preserve a few city blocks, completely disregarding anyone outside of his "utopia," The militaristic government knockoff that, as cass said, "They try to put their stake in everything they see," sure, they establish order in the process, but thats only so that whatever they get, they bleed dry (again, check the peaceful end of Cass' quest.) Now, Legion pisses me right the f*#@ off. Apart from the obvious reason why they would piss everyone off, what really rustles my jimmies is the fact that they keep trade-routes and territories safe. So, they're technically good guys, if you look past the whole "kill, rape, and enslave everything in our way with an iron fist" part. f*#@, I wanna take over the dam, Helios 1, and New Vegas for the Followers and establish contact with Lyon's BoS, this is just ridiculous. Some may say that he doesn't care about anyone outside the Strip but I'm going to say that he isn't concerned about small issues and instead is focusing on the big picture(rebuilding New Vegas and keeping it out of people like NCR and the Legion). The NCR is only fighting the war because its politicians are greedy, they do not understand that they cannot just come in and take everyone's land whenever they feel like it. They are cutting corners more than everyone else, mainly because they've gotten lazy and haven't faced a real enemy ever since the Enclave. Giving New Vegas to them isn't just bad for New Vegas but for themselves as well, they will continue to expand uncontrollably and violently just like the US did (where are they now) and they will not stop until they are shown that this will not function. People only benefit from the NCR when their needs are aligned to theirs. The Legion isn't any better. The Legion is emulating a failed society and one that failed long before the Old World did, progress cannot be stopped whether the Legion likes it or not, you can't just de-evolve humanity like the Legion wants to. Their society is also based on the principles of one person, Caesar. Hitler and Stalin also attempted to do this, both of them failed and whatever accomplishments they brought to their nations were short term. The Legion will fall apart once Caesar dies, human nature will do what it does best. People will disagree on what path the legion should take, factions will form and will destroy each other, essentially breaking any "unity" Caesar created within the tribes he conquered. You cannot just make everyone the same, it is impossible, no one is the same in anything, it is just the way nature functions. The Brotherhood and the Enclave are the same and little bit like the Legion. Both are clinging to ideas that have long since failed and died. The Brotherhood wants to base its values on medieval knighthood, the Enclave on the US government. Both are dead and gone, and soon enough both groups will be as well. Both groups are technologically superior to everyone and shun anyone who isn't one of theirs, both are isolated and both seek to control any advanced technology, both think that they are the only ones with the "higher thought processes" to control that advanced technology. What makes them anymore infallible than everyone else? They are still human, and given the circumstances I think that idea of theirs is an excuse. The Enclave isn't above using their superior technology to screw people over and I doubt the Brotherhood is either, they did use that technology to fight the NCR. Both dislike mutants and ghouls and even though the Brotherhood doesn't outright do anything about that they still dislike mutants and ghouls and will not take extra care to not shoot them. Both groups also have a fanatical devotion to a bunch of misguided ideals, the Brotherhood had Elijah, the Enclave had Richardson, both insane in their own right. Let's not forget that both came from the US military as well. Out of all the groups, I think the Brotherhood is the most hypocritical and self righteous, and the ones I least like, at least the Enclave is honest about what it is doing. The Brotherhood talks about "protecting" people, but they don't care about anyone, the only thing they care about is technology. Why do they need all those weapons and power armor to "protect" people from themselves? They're the most backwards society that exists in the world of Fallout, even House is of the opinion that the Brotherhood is ridiculous and even says that NCR is better than them. People seem to thing that the fact that it is a corrupt beuracracy is some overwhelming negative mark against..instead of understanding that thats pretty much the hallmark of all successful and powerful nations (Spoiler: Not just the U.S! so you can stop your flag burning there hypothetical college aged hipster wearing a fedora!)The Ncr offerns the best chance for the most amount of people to have reasonably satisfying lives.
