General modding question

What makes a game moddable? For instance GTA5 and RDR2 have several trainers that allow significant control over game play, why? Other games have no such trainers but have many other mods. Is it because of the game engine or have people just decided not to make trainers for some games. Sorry if this is a vague question that misunderstands basic modding knowledge, but I really don't know enough to figure it out. Thanks.

Some games are more easily modded than others. A lot depends on what game engine they are using, and what the game developers allow the end user to do to their games. Bethesda actually releases the tools they use to make the games, for folks to use to make mods, and the games are specifically set up to allow that. (for the most part..... :) ) Other companies have a different take on it....

additionally trainer using hacks on the game executable are no mods. they are "hacks". it is often unclear to which degree they are a result of a legal approach to manipulate the game executable (reverse engineering of encoded files ?) . apart from that some of them may include viruses like trojans. so be aware of that.

Can viruses be concealed in none .exe files?

If you are running a decent a/v program, even windows defender..... it should scan any files you download, and if it doesn't like it, will simply nuke it.
