I downloaded the game from the Xbox app on my computer, but i dont know if the mods work on the Xbox version.

As far as I can tell, the answer is yes. But it requires extra steps. I tried, but have been completely unsuccessful getting mods to work on the Xbox version. So I just bought it again through Steam. It's on sale right now, 50% off. Up to you if it's worth the money. It was for me.
