[LE] Armor overlapping

Recommended Posts

I am currently trying to add piece of armor, 53 and 54 (right and left legs) slots. I'm trying to make it look like: you equip armor (for example iron armor). Then you equip my armor piece and leg from iron armor model disappears instead of overlapping. How can I do this?

I'm a complete novice at modding Skyrim (even if this is your first mod, you're already more successful than me :P ) so this might not be 100% correct, but I've also been trying to understand partitions recently and I've been researching so I think I understand how they work.

Even though most vanilla armors in Skyrim cover the legs and the body, they are generally only one model (I think using partitions 32, 34 and 38). I don't think the game can replace a small part of that model with a different set of armor in a separate partition. You could cover up the legs, maybe, but not replace the legs without editing the model. Even if you used the Iron Armor's partitions for your mod, it would replace the entire body, not only the legs. The only way I know to have the effect you want (again, I'm a novice, there might be another way, idk) is to make a second Iron Armor for Skyrim, and manually edit the model to remove the legs so you can use the leg armor you've created with the vanilla cuirass.

It would probably be best to wait for a second opinion from someone more experienced though!

This is not the only way. Partitions can be used in Armor Addon to say CK what slots model holds and in Armor what slots is blocked by armor. So, if armor blocks only body slot, others should be replaced when you equip other armor which block that armor slot (for example vampire royal armor's part of sleeves are disappear when you equip gloves).

I think I've completely misunderstood your original post of what you're trying to do. You want it to replace the leg of other armor and not just sit on top of it?

One piece will replace another piece only if they have the same slot/partitions and is of higher priority.

Taking your example of the iron armor it has a 32_body and a 38_Calves partition. Your replacement armor would need to have a 38_Calves partition to hide the iron armor underneath and even then it's only the calves. There's no way to remove the entire leg unless you want to re-partition iron armor and that's not very practical. If your armor is made so that it covers the rest of the leg enough then it should cover the remaining leg and work as you expect. Unfortunately, not all armor has a 38_Calves partition.

I edited partitions for example armor and i will do it over time for others. I have realised something... strange. When I edit partitions for another vanilla armor and try out it with my leg armor, that armor removes my custom armor model from character, but after I literraly waited for about 2 hours and changed priority from 255 to 250 of my custom armor addon, suddenly it starts replace legs of vanilla armor as it should. But when I update one more vanilla model, it has same problem as previous.
