I did some searching but I couldn't find anything like this and I'm a little surprised. I'd like to play a mode similar to ultra-nightmare but if you die it just restarts the level rather than the whole game. If I quit in the middle of a level, a save file opens at the beginning of that level. No extra lives or checkpoints, just a save file that doesn't get deleted.

If there's something like this, please let me know. It would seriously help get me through actual ultra-nightmare.
