Vortex Load Order Struggles with Fallout 4 / Diamond City Expansion

Hi all,

Can anyone help me force Diamond City Expansion to load dead last in my load order? I've tried creating a DCE group at the end of my string of groups and adding Diamond City Expansion to it. I've tried setting a few rules so that DCE loads after other key mods I think it might be conflicting with. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I understand what the goal of Vortex's automated load order sorting is but in this case I'd really really really love to just drag the mod I want at the end to the end of my load order and call it a day.

Thanks so much for any guidance.

Disregard this. I was able to fix my issue myself by using NMM to manually sort my load order and Vortex apparently recognized the changes I made and putting DCE at the bottom of my load order fixed the graphical issues I was having in Diamond City.

are you using vortex or nmm? or both? if its the latter - don't. use one mod manager and stick with it or you're going to have a bad day.

Oh I'm just using Vortex now but after struggling to move a mod in my load order, I loaded up NMM and was able to move it there and then Vortex apparently recognized the move. Moving the mod to the end of my load order fixed the problem I was having. Do you think using NMM only for rare load order adjustments like that could cause problems?

yeah, don't do that. really, just don't.

move the plugin using vortex's plugin screen as i put in the post you necro'd.

note - i said PLUGIN - you don't move a mod to a group - you move the PLUGIN.

you can set rules to let mod a load before mod b - but that is not the same thing. you also need to cater for the plugin. and those plugins where the instruction is to move it to last in your load order are done via groups on the plugin page.

Go to the plugin page, double click the plugin - add the group you want - late loaders.

click sort. plugin now moves lower down in your load order.

go to mods screen - click deploy. done.

don't use two mod managers. just don't. i can't stress that strongly enough.

also learn about mods and plugins and why they are not at all the same thing.

Thank you for your responses! I'm really curious what you mean about the difference between what is a plugin and a mod. In the case of this mod that modifies the interior of Diamond City, 'Diamond City Expansion', is it's .esp a mod or a plugin?

Also, I've seen mention of the 'late loaders' group numerous times. Is that a group I'm supposed to add myself at the end of the 'manage groups' list? This is the list of groups I have in its entirety (you can see the DCE group at the end that I made to try and force Diamond City Expansion to load last):

Okay, further reading advises me that the difference between mods and plugins is that a mod is a modification to the game and plugins are sometimes included in mods. A texture or mesh change mod might not have a plugin. In this case, Diamond City Expansion mod does include a plugin in the form of an .esp. It's the .esp / plugin that we add to groups and create rules for to try and adjust where it loads in the load order? Plugins loading after usually being 'the winner' in conflicts?

So again in my case I wanted Diamond City Expansion's .esp plugin to load after any / every other plugin that modifies Diamond City in my load order. I created the DCE group and tacked it onto the end of my groups in the group manager, but maybe I didn't do it right? Doing that and adding DCE to it didn't fix the issue. I also created rules, eventually one for every single plugin in my load order that DCE plugin should load after it. That didn't fix the issue either. Then I opened my old NMM install, saw that the load order I'd sorted with LOOT in Vortex was visible there and then manually moved the Diamond City Expansion .esp to the bottom of my load order and closed it. I went back to Vortex, saw that the DCE .esp was indeed at the bottom of the load order and loaded the game through Vortex and found the issue fixed.

I don't have any reason or plans to use NMM again for anything else and am totally ignorant of what problems I may have caused for my game installation and/or saved game and I'm definitely curious about that too.

go to plugins tab, open manage groups - see dynamic patches is the last group? double click your mod put it in dynamic patches - sort - go to mods - deploy. done.
