xlodgen,texgen and dyndolod

To do DynDolod you need to install the resources, do I also need those resources installed to do the texgen before that?

Do I need the resources installed to do the xlodgen before even that?

When I run dyndolod do I need to keep my xlodgen_output enabled or do I disable it first?

When running the game, which out of texgen_output, xlodgen_output and the dyndolod resources do I keep enabled?

Okay, I'll try to give you some "workflow". Here's what works for me.

Basic order is:

1. Create terrain lod textures and meshes with xlodgen. From my experience, it doesn't matter, if you have Dyndolod resources installed at that point or not. BTW, don't create occlusion in xlodgen, if you use dyndolod 3.x. Otherwise, also let xlodgen create an occlusion.esp.

2. Install xlodgen output.

3. Install dyndolod resources.Let it be overwritten by everything, that conflicts. Dyndolod resources is just your "fallback" mod.

4. Run texgen.

5. Install texgen output. Let it overwrite everything, that conflicts.

6. Run dyndolod.

7. Install dyndolod output, Again, overwrite anything, that conflicts.

When everything is finished, both dyndolod resources and texgen output should be left installed. Lodgen output must be enabled anyway, otherwise you'd be missing the nice terrain lod you created before.

Hope that helps. If anything is unclear, feel free to ask again.

Ah, that's very useful. The info I had read regarding xlodgen gave me the impression that it was only necessary for creating texgen not for playing the game!

Also, if I have intstalled something like DynDoLod V 3.0 Lod pack (all versions) for Majestic Mountains then do I leave that installed to play the game?

FYI

Keeping xlodgen_output enabled while playing the game results in my map looking like this:

without xlodgen_output enabled my map looks like this:

does this mean I've done something wrong? I installed the resources, used xlodgen, then used texgen, kept the resources, texgen, and xlodgen enabled and used dyndolod.

What world map mod are you using? From the picture I'd guess it's this one:

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5804

If it is that map mod, you have two options:

A: Recreate terrain lod in xlodgen with high quality settings for LOD 16 and LOD 32. Most important setting is "quality". Don't use anything above 10. In fact, you can even create everything with quality=0. Will take a bit longer, but the impact on performance is negligible.

B: Unpack the BSA file from "a quality world map" with a BSA extractor like this one. Zip up the unpacked BSA and install it as a mod. Let this "mod" overwrite your Xlodgen output. This way, you'll also get the roads from the map mod.

(Option C: Use a more advanced map mod like this one. Build assets in Xlodgen and Dyndolod according to teh instructions on the mod's page. That's what I did - and everything looks great).

I tried the map mod you linked to, I find it a bit clashing with the coloured map markers, though it is very detailed if you follow the instructions:) So to be clear about your options for the 'A quality world map' mod: are you saying to overide the generated xlodgen_output to get the roads before or after generating texgen and then dyndolod?

TBH, I don't think it really matters. I've been using a loose file version (BSA extracted) of "a quality world map" for a long time. I never disabled it before running texgen or dyndolod and had no issues whatsoever.

If you want to be on the absolutely safe side, disable "a quality worldmap" and its loose files before running texgen and dyndolod.
