Game won't launch within vortex

Hello,

I am using version of Vortex 1.5.11 and my OP Windows 10pro, 16GB of ram.

I had to replace my SSD a few months ago from an electrical outage and had to reinstall vortex and lost all my profiles to have to start over so to make sure, I launched the game right after I installed it in which all the mods that were installed showed up (my game and mod staging folder is on another drive thank goodness for that) and the game launched at that time.

So I didn't go any further and worked on setting up the profiles again. Vortex works fine on the other computer so I know it's not the program. After I tried to launch it from vortex with F4SE and then the fallout 4 in vortex, neither worked. Yes, I have the links right for the F4SE F:\Fallout 4\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\f4se_loader.exe

I went into the Fallout 4 folder, and the game did launch from the fallout 4 launcher, so now I know it's my vortex program.

After I checked the diagnostic files, to see if there were errors, it said 12 errors. I sent this in feedback and that was before I got a message then that the game was started from another instance and I had to purge the mods because of that, and wouldn't let me deploy them until I did the purge. I couldn't do a purge from the other instance, since it was on the destroyed SSD that I sent back to get a new one.

After the purge, the game still won't launch so I am at a a loss as how to fix it.

The diagnostic report is too large to upload, the only errors it couldn't find a game that was enabled on the extension list so don't think that is the problem.

Thank you for any help you can give me to fix this issue.

You could try the following, most of this is just some things I tried myself when I had issues. Most are Skyrim se related but since Fallout 4 is basically the same shoudl be the same steps to try.

Can you start up task manager and launch the game, check in the list if it even runs in the background and are hanging?

You may see fallout 4 or f4se in the list in apps or processes.

That may tell you if it launching but something is hanging it.

If you go to start then run and type in %appdata% (this will take you to your user folder where applications store data)

Look for the vortex folder, then look at vortex.log.

At the end of that file it may show info on what is going wrong when launching to figure this out, I'm not sure if posting it may help or at least the last bunch of lines after you start the game but it hangs.

If it doesn't show anything obvious:

Simplest thing I would suggest is make sure you have the config set, start the fallout 4 launcher, go into options and just leave settings as they are and hit ok. Then exit the launcher, and try to relaunch the game.

Try just reinstalling f4se on top of itself by redragging it on top of itself in the fallout 4 directory.

If it still doesn't work, you can try to go to vortex and go to the plugins category then in the flags box choose incompatible.

Check if any mods show as incompatible, one time it wasn't loading as I was trying to run like a Skyrim SE mod in normal Skyrim in error.

Another time I had SE not launch and it was a corrupt creation club file, even a steam repair doesn't fix as it comes from bethesda that so I had remove it manually in the data folder and then go to the gui in game and re-download it.

If that still doesn't help you can try a steam repair but you may lose any custom config settings.

If you don't see anything there that is odd or flagged as incompatible, what you could try is clone your existing Skyrim SE profile (to back it up in case you need to revert) and enable the new profile you made. Then go to plugins and I would suggest the annoying pain of trying to disable one mod at a time and see if it loads, in case you mess up your mod or load order you have the old profile backed up.

If there is still issues after that I am a bit stumped.

Ok...thanks...I have a profile set up for just testing mods, and had only f4SE activated, I clicked on the start button, opened up task manager and it's not running. You can also see that it starts to run but shuts off, so I don't think it's any mod, its most likely due to the 'instance' the game was previously ran on and it don't want to start the game with this instance even after I purged the mods like it made me do, and which I could find nothing on the knowledge base about purging or what to do if you have to start the game with another 'instance' as in installing vortex after my hard drive crashed due to a electrical outage, and got the new one. I have vortex on another computer and it works fine. The settings are the same. I don't get error reports or anything. I also tried to reinstall F4SE before I posted here just in case it was that program not working. It didn't effect it so wondering if I installed a new copy of the game would it then maybe launch it?

I'm at a loss too as to what is wrong, and probably not any mod as I stated above trying to launch it with just F4SE activated. Thanks for your advice, I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem if they had to install vortex and trying to start the game from another 'instance' as they call it.

BTW...when I tried to do that with the profile with no mods and just the F4SE enabled, it says it doesn't exist? So I had linked it to the F4SE loader.exe file like every other time, the file exists...but somehow vortex says it doesn't.

I reconnected the link to the F4SE in my other drive folder...so no error code again, but I looked into the diagnostic files and it appears that Vortex is looking for the game on my C:drive, instead of the F: drive even though I linked it to the other drive....When I installed steam, I listed my library folder in steam as the F: drive....but as I had done before, I moved my game before with steam to the other drive, but this time I just installed steam and listed my library as the F: drive in settings on steam...but in diagnostic files it appears it's looking for it on the C: drive...I don't know how to do this any differently, so I have looked at all the settings and there are no other settings to change within vortex that I can find.

Well...I think I know what the problem is but now I don't know how to fix it. When I created a steam library folder on my F: drive, it installed the game there but I see the F4SE launcher there so I changed the link to the game in that library folder and the start in link to it which looks like this:

F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\f4se_loader.exe

F:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

The settings for the fallout 4 folder I had originally connected to it, for the fallout 4 launch button in vortex cannot be edited...it's still:

F:\Fallout 4\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Fallout4.exe

I still tried to launch it from there but same thing, it starts then stops. Saying it can't find the F4SE in diagnostics

My staging folder is F: vortexmods\fallout4
So now my question is:
Should I move the staging folder so that it is on the game in the steam library? Man, I made a mess...didn't I? Sorry guys, still learning here.
I tried to move the steam common distributables to the F: drive but wouldn't let me because those are shared folders...for whatever that is suppose to mean...grrrrr

Steam Redistributables has nothing to do with it...

It sounds like the Windows Registry is still pointing to the C drive. Steam is supposed to update that when it moves a game.

Take a look in RegEdit and see where it thinks your game is located. Just search on game name.

If you are comfortable making changes, you can correct it if it is wrong.

The staging folder has to be on the same drive as the game. I have lost track of what is actually where...

Don't move it yourself - go to Settings and define the correct location. Vortex will move the directory and all your mods for you.
