VR lack of support for .esl files

Today, most Skyrim SE mods "just work" in Skyrim VR.

If those mods include .esl files, Vortex will install them in the correct location in the VR game directory.

At that point, to all intents and purposes, those files "vanish". Skyrim VR does not support .esl.

It would be good if Vortex would detect a .esl file in a Skyrim VR mod and raise a warning. This should not stop the Deploy.

It would be up to the user to convert that file back to a .esp. SSEEdit makes it easy.

Am I right in saying that VR doesn't support any kind of light plugin, not just ESL?

In that case it probably wouldn't be too hard to include a test for that. I'm actually surprised these plugins don't get a LOOT message to provide that warning.

ESL specifically was an SE change after VR came out.

I was not aware that ESL was not supported - until it bit me.

ESL is two things; the plugin name (not so important), and the flag in the header. SSEEdit can reset the header ESL flag; then it defaults to ESP. Note: the ESM flag might also be set.

I am not aware of any other additions to VR over SE. I am also not aware of any other flavors of Light plugins. Sorry...

For reference: https://modding.wiki/en/skyrim/users/plugin-load-order

ESL specifically refers to "Elder Scrolls Light Master", namely the Creation Club plugins and anything manually created that way in the CK.

"Light plugins" covers these and ESLPs (often known by the stupid name ESPFE) which are ESPs with the light header flag set. Using the article as context, we're talking about "Light Masters" and "Light Plugins".

If I'm understanding you correctly, neither of these is supported.

Well that is sort of easier.

Nothing with the ESL flag set is supported.

Open question is what Skyrim VR does with a file named .esp, but with the header flag ESL set. If Skyrim VR just ignores the flag - that works too.

That would be sure to mess someone up though. It does not pay to be tricky...
