Using lockpicking to pickpocket - feasible?

Hey there,

 

I have always hated the percentage based pickpocketing mechanic.

And even though I play thieves a lot, I never really use this mechanic or use savescumming to avoid it.

I have yet to find a mod that changes the pickpocketing to a skillbased mechanic.

 

So I thought if it was possible to change the mechanic in a way that when you try to steal an item you get into a lockpicking screen.

If you succeed you get the item and if not you get busted. (Perhaps implemented by altering the chance of success to 100% or 0%)

 

Further mechanics could go into the direction where the difficulty-assigment of the lock depends on the success of pickpocketing the item.

 

For a start I would like to know if this idea is even feasible or impossible.
