so after a while not playing Skyrim I jumped back, noticed vortex was no installed then I downloaded. now be in mind that most of mods were either no up to date or (and that's important) MY OWN CREATED MODS THAT I CANT FIND THIER BACKUPS, I am talkin hours upon hours. now if you are here to tell me YoUr fAult fOr nOt HavIng a bAck uP please don't even bother replying. so back to the story a massage with 2 option appeared which I accidently clicked purge (why? cause vortex decided to bombard me with massages) then I realized all the mods including my own mods GONE. not moved to recycle bin, not just disabled, GONE

who in their right mind put a kill switch like that? now if you know if its still recoverable please tell me how

for the curios bunch I had backups on an external hard drive but its dead (lucky me)

Anything you added yourself to the game directory is just as you left it. Vortex does not delete files in the game directory.

Vortex also never puts files in the game directory. It only adds hard links, which Purge removes.

So these mods you created - had no source? You kept them only in the mod staging directory - and uninstalled Vortex?

Did I get that right?

I had a weird mix of mods that were I have integrated with other mods (so I wont need to create dependencies), you right the mods that are 100% my own are still there, but then I got another 20 that aren't (please don't ask my mods were super weird that's why I never uploaded to the nexus, technicality weird ofc)

there's so many holes in this story, i don't really know where to start.

when you installed vortex - was it a re-install of vortex? as in you'd previously installed it and removed it?

if it was a reinstall - when you fired up vortex i assume it found your mods, as it previously managed them, and you'd installed vortex without previously purging your mods when you removed it?

in terms of recovery - if the files were physically there - as in not hard links to files, but actually, physically located in the data directory, then you could attempt to use some sort of recovery software on the directory and see if remnants of files can be discovered. the problem would be - you can't touch the physical disk where your mods previously existed, as the space they occupied is now available to be re-used. so you'd need to run the recovery software from an external drive.

if the issue really, really matters to you, then you may want to try and get a professional recovery but that's $$$$
