Hi!

I need to create a voice type, but I don't know how to start. I want to duplicate a basic voice type (for excample, "male brute") and simply replace audios with my custom records. I need it for a custom follower. He doesn't need custom dialogue, he only needs his own voice (mainly growls).

I know this:

The voice type entries has no dialogue or audio data. They seems to work as a keyword.

The voice lines are created in quests.

The voice type defines the dialogue options (so I want to duplicate a vanilla voice type with basic follower dialogue options).

But I don't know:

What entry (quest?) do I have to duplicate to make a copy of the brute male voice type?

Any help would be appreciated :)

My first thought is to watch any number of youtube videos on how to create a follower.

Making a voice type is easy, just find the voice type list on the left, it will bring up a list, right click, choose new and give it a name. You can then create your quest, assign the voice type accordingly and then record your custom dialogue.

Here's another video for custom npc's

I tend to like Darkfox's videos as he is pretty straight to the point.

I'm not at my personal computer otherwise I'd tell you how to assign the dialogue but these videos should tell you how.

Hopefully that's what you are looking for.

What you want to do is done with the use of 'Dialogue Share Info', look at how these 'Shared Dialogue Infos' are set up in CK so you can get an idea.
Researching this online (video tutorials) i don't think you will find much about it, and if you do it will be in this forum right here (I've posted a detailed info of how this works in the past here on Nexus forum), this is 1 of the places where youtubers like the above find their info to make their videos.

An alternative way to do it is to extract from the Skyrim BSA all the dialogue lines you want to use, then record in you quest a 'silent' audio line and then replace the extracted vanilla line with the one of your quest.
Extracted vanilla line must match the exact recorded dailogue line ID for it to work, otherwise you'll get nothing.

I'm lost. Sovrath and Maxarturo, I really appreciate your info, but I have no idea about how to do it.

I have some experience with Creation Kit, making armor, weapons, leveled lists, characters with their custom skins, editing races and places... but this is getting too hard for me. I understand your words, but I can't find things like "Dialogue Share Info".

The second video has a lot of useful info for making new dialogues from scratch. But I only need that my character utter a growl when you say him "follow me", "wait", "do this" or "need to trade". I found the quest "DialogueFollower". I tried to duplicate it, but the duplicate has no topics.

So it seems to I have to make all basic follower dialogues from scratch, and then assign the effect of recruit, wait or open barter menu (maybe using scripts in the topic info window?). Is this correct? There is no way to use vanilla dialogue with a new voice sound?

depending on what you want to do with your mod I wouldn't use vanilla dialogue with a new sound as I suspect you would alter that dialogue for everyone's game.

The best way is indeed to make a new dialogue and enter the new sound. At least at my level of understanding of the creation kit.

While I don't know how to make a follower, in my mod I several times added sound effects to a dialogue response by recording the dialogue and then mixing in the sound effect.

So yeah, make your follower with all new dialogue and go nuts with the growls. You then won't mess with anything from the main game which might be bad if you share the mod with others.

I'm going to add this video as this creator made a whole follower and he goes step by step how he did it. Could be a huge help (I hope)

wow YES i'm seeing the light hehe

The parts 2 and 3 of the video have all the detailed info I need. It describes the entire process for creating the basic follower dialogs and adding the sounds. It is perfect!

Of course modifying vanilla quests was not an option. I will study this to give my follower the voice he deserves.

Thank you very much for taking your time. I really appreciate it  Have a nice day!!

Awesome, glad we could help.

And that's the idea right? Some of us have a bit of experience here and there, some have a lot of experience, some have come across things that they might not use but could be helpful to others who don't know about it.

Congrats and looking forward to your finished mod.
