After updating my computer to windows 8.1 Oblivion will no longer load.

I get a Runtime Error msg window. No 0x000 number

The it shows the PATH to my Oblivion.exe.

I have wyre bash, OBMM and OBSE (OBSE) won't work because I have a dl'd version not the CD.

The game ran fine in windows 8.

Dual 1.8 processors with 6Gb of ram

Help ???

Ah, that would be the reason why. The D2D version of Oblivion has an encrypted Oblivion.exe and therefore it cannot be patched. From the OBSE page:

OBSE does not work with:

Oblivion 1.2.0.214 This was the official downloadable 1.2 patch. (as of v0017)

Oblivion 1.2.0.410: the Shivering Isles beta patch.

Oblivion 1.2.0.201: the Shivering Isles DVD build.

Oblivion 1.1.0.511 This was the original Oblivion that OBSE supported. (as of v0017)

Oblivion 1.0: the original DVD build of Oblivion.

The Direct2Drive version of Oblivion or Shivering Isles. The Oblivion.exe provided by D2D is encrypted, and we cannot patch it without breaking the encryption. We will not do this, as it is illegal.

The Impulse version of Oblivion or Shivering Isles. The Oblivion.exe provided by Impulse is also encrypted.

The GameSpot version of Oblivion or Shivering Isles. The Oblivion.exe provided by GameSpot is also encrypted.

Probably any digital distribution version other than Steam. This is just going on history with other services.

Personally I could care less about OBSE, I would just like the program to load, it has to be something in the C++ Microsoft changes in 8.1

So Since I have a brand new up to date computer OBLIVION won't run on it ?

Is there still anyway to get the DVD version of the game any more ?

Thanks for reading this and HELP please.

So, does Oblivion run with no mods at all? i.e. a completely clean install without anything that wasn't from D2D?

Note that I'm only making guesses as I have no experience with Windows 8 or 8.1 whatsoever (and probably won't until MS provide users with a way to completely remove every last byte of the touch screen interface).

they sell the collectors edition at wall mart stores .DVD retail. Skyrim, Oblivion, and a few other names ......all in one box.

$85.00 US.

http://windows8themes.org/how-to-disable-data-execution-prevention-in-windows-8.html

and if that does not work, your going to need to enable the .net 3.5 in the add remove programs section to on, allow it to install so you can add support for obsolete data.

PM me, with your E-mail, I'll Direct you to an app to gather needed info on that unit. HP ! ?? has problems with these games, run-time, visual-basic bug. .net3.5 for 32bit not installed for a 32bit game. you need both.

Okay a bit of a noob question here: What's the D2D version of Oblivion, is that the same as the DVD version? I don't have Steam but play off of a DVD. How do you find the version of your Oblivion.

I am going to be purchasing Windows 8.1 but am not really sure unless I know that Oblivion will continue to work.
