Several issues with Skyrim after installation of Vortex 1.6.7

Hi,

I got immediate problems with SKYRIM SE after the pushed installation of Vortex 1.6.7 which included an installation of Microsoft .NET update. Background info: I have no other games, nor mods in Vortex than Skyrim atm. The mods are all from Nexus/Vortex website. All mods installed without problem. I played the game without ANY problem for several hundred hours until the recent Vortex and .NET update.

Symptoms:

After installation and restart of my PC the Vortex began to use a lot of time starting after I click the sw to open. Before Vortex update it took just seconds to start the Vortex and have the GUI ready for use. Now it may take up to one minute, without any information about what is going on.

Another issue is that right after this update I started the Skyrim all sorts of strange things started to happen with the Windows 10 GUI. The screen resolution changed strangely and during the start of the Skyrim GUI got windowed, then full screen, then suddenly the view changed to Windows 10. This happened by itself several times forth and back. Then the game UI opened finally in a window but the content was like in full screen mode.

I did some research and found out I should delete the two skyrim*.ini files. I did that, restarted the PC and Vortex/Skyrim. The Vortex was again totally slow, but once I started Skyrim then it finally worked properly, but ofc I missed my UI settings for the game. It was reset to very low graphics settings though, so I used the NVIDIA Experience Game UI to set the graphics settings back to the optimal. Skyrim was back in the settings I had used it.

Now some time later it happened again, same behavior with the Skyrim/Windows 10 GUI, swapping of resolutions and windowed behaviour. Seemingly this happened by itself without that I noticed any update on Vortex, Windows 10 nor NVIDIA GPU drivers. Same fix worked fine for this problem again.

However, I see a lot of complaints about erratic behavior at this Vortex support website. Now, I would appreciate if the support team would publish some kind of summary of so far reported issues with the latest update of Vortex 1.6.7. while this update seems to have caused really strange problems with some of the users of the Vortex sw.

However, thanks for a great tool (Nexus/Vortex) which makes it so much more enjoyable to play so many RPG games. I have really enjoyed playing Fallout and Skyrim series games with the great mods you guys and modders have produced for these games. Keep up with the super job you do.

Greetings and thanx,

Zuice

Hi there,

The only known issue (and I use "issue" loosely) is this: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/11865088-microsoft-net-check-failed-vortex-167/

It's a problem caused by using have borked Windows or .NET 6 installs.

Your problems seem entirely unique to your machine, but you might want to look in your Vortex log file (%Appdata%\Vortex\vortex.log) and see if there are any message which my indicate what is causing the slowdown.

Most often this kind of thing can be attributed to failing hardware or security apps interfering with normal operation of the app/game.

Thx for quick answer.

I started the Vortex, waited till the slow start time ended. Then browsed for the vortex.log. This is what I see after the start of Vortex in the log file. It semms to have been doing some start file validation for over 1 minute. So what can you say about that?

The behavior is strange. Vortex hangs for one minute (seemingly doing nothing) in the startup every time when starting it first time after I have started the computer in the morning. Later if I reboot the system then the Vortex may start without delay. Can this be login related issue in the Vortex?

Another thing, which I already referred to in my first post was that the Windows/Skyrim GUI can/will go bezerk time to time. This changed after your last update of Vortex and update of .NET in the same process. After starting Skyrim from Vortex it happens time to time that the Skyrim GUI window opens as normal, then suddenly it "minimizes" itself and "returns" to Windows GUI desktop by itself. Every time I change back to Skyrim from taskbar it opens, but then minimizes itself again by itself returning back to Windows GUI desktop. This repeats and repeats. Only way to fix this after this is to shut down computer and restart it. Then I need to delete the two skyrim*.ini files. Restart Vortex/Skyrim, which starts then in windowed GUI on Windows desktop. Then I modify the settings in the Skyrim GUI to my desire, thus creating anew the skyrim*.ini files. Then I close the Skyrim and Vortex. After this I open NVIDIA Experience sw to set the graphics options to best optimized. After that I reload Vortex and start Skyrim and I get back to the full screen view of Skyrim - and it stays stable for a while. If I leave the computer so that it starts timed screensaver so that I need to log in then for sure after this the Skyrim GUI gets totally broken. Game opens in a window which is smaller than desktop, but the content there is as if it was in full screen (resolutio), and if I open settings menu then the GUI for the setiings is still full screen.

I do not know what you changed in last update of Vortex (.NET?) - but for me it screwed this game quite badly.

Having similar issues with almost identical logs. Vortex is taking a really long time to load at start. The logo does not appear until about 1-2 mins after clicking the desktop icon. This happened after the recent updates, before those Vortex opened almost instantly.

Aside from slow startup, I haven't noticed any other remarkable issues. Admittedly, haven't been extensively using Vortex part from updating a couple of Bannerlord mods.

Actually, I can see that the file validation took 2 minutes there.

There's a high chance that a local security app is interfering or there's a hardware fault with your C:\ drive.
