How to rollback AE so that Vortex recognizes the change

Of course Skyrim decided to fix bugs today in an 11 year old game (lol why) ansd now SKSE doesn't work and I'm worried about my mod list breaking when SKSE updates. I've seen a lot of instructions on how to roll back, but I'm worried that it will screw up Vortex and my current playthrough if I do.

Does anyone have instructions that will work with Vortex for sure?

Skyrim AE is just a different version of Skyrim SE.

Install your rollback as a mod, enable and deploy.

Check your actual Skyrim SE version by navigating to skyrim se .exe file, and display Properties.

Go to skse.silverlock.org and make sure you have installed the correct version for the version you found in the step above.

If your SKSE version is not correct, you will be informed when you try to run. Correct it at that time. Starting with the wrong version does not break anything.

Just don't try running with the wrong version.

Hey, I installed a Skyrim collection, but couldn't start the game with SKSE. I found this on Reddit and it worked for me...

From ContraBiscuits on Reddit:

Skyrim updated to 1.6.629 SKSE won't launch the game right now.

Anyone that wants to downgrade back to AE from a few hours ago (1.6.353):

First type this into your web browser:

steam://nav/console

Then allow it to open steam client bootstrapper. Once the console window appears, type:

download_depot 489830 489833 4570833277049890269

Depot download complete : "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830\depot_489833" (1 files, manifest 4570833277049890269)

Check the console for the location of the newly downloaded skyrimse.exe version 1.6.353. Then simply replace the exe in your game files with this one. Don't know how well this will work but the game is at least launching for me so...

Very good method.

I do (strongly) recommend you zip up the download. Call it something like "Skyrim Downgrade.zip".

Drag it to Vortex as a mod. Change Mod Type to "Engine Injector" to get it loaded into the Skyrim directory.

Enable and Deploy. Now you are downgraded, with the ability to go current again just by disabling the mod and Deploying.

And your game directory remains pristine.

That's what I've done, but every time I open Vortex it updates the game again!

Vortex doesn't update your game, that's entirely up to Steam

It is, though. I've replaced my exe in the installation of Skyrim with the last AE (per Contrabiscuit's instructions from reddit, above.) It runs when I do that. But if I close Vortex and re-open it, Vortex says my game is updated and I have to copy the correct exe again. I never ever run the game through steam, only through Vortex.

How do I change the mod type? I don't see an option for that.
