Your local skyrim news!

What's the local news in skyrim? Well I have no idea, that's why I have made this mod request. :teehee:

Does anyone remember the Black Horse Courier from Oblivion? Well if you don't then (shame on you :armscrossed: and) I'll tell you what it was. The BHC was the immersive newspaper company in the Imperial city that gave Cyrodiillians the news of the day/week/wheneverthechampiondidsomething. This newspaper was great in the game because it gave a sense of involvement and power to the player as they read papers reporting of the events that they caused or naturally occurred during the game. For example if you went to a tea party and used a spell that made everyone but naked (its an actual quest http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Sanguine_(Quest)) then the BHC would report on it and even tell about the different outcomes that could have happened.

The point I'm trying to make is that it would be very fitting in skyrim for there to be a local newspaper talking about the events that take place throughout the game. A newspaper in skyrim would also add to people's roleplaying as they would feel as if they have made a lasting impact thats the talk of the country instead of it being like "oh well, its just another day that the dragonborn of legend has a glorious battle on the throat of the world with the dragon Alduin for the the whole country to see. Just another Morndas (Monday)"

This newspaper would actual fit into the lore of the game as it could be an extension of the bards college in Solitude. The newspaper should not be the BHC though maybe something else more skyrim like, something.... frosty. Well nevermind, the newspaper could also have some twisted truth to them like maybe they are influence by the legion, stormcloaks, or neither, maybe they are bias by the rich or the thieve's guild, who knows? Another interesting thing of the newspaper could be that there would be couriers who sell the newspaper at city markets (for a price that is), they could sorta be like a crier but not as annoying and not so much with the bells, but still they would talk about the actual issue they are selling at the moment; though this would require some voice acting

Anyway this mod would add a lot of Immersion and RPing to the game and would be a great addiction to any immersive junkies load order if created.

Sorry for any bad grammar, jumpyness or bad humour as its late from where I'm at and its hard to be construction at 1 am in the morning!

Thanks for reading!

Well, I would like the newspapers to be free, just like how it was in Oblivion. And I would like two rival newspaper companies, yes, you heard me right. Either two, or none.

One of them supporting Imperials, and the other Stormcloaks. Imagine, you are involved in civil war quests, and you take over some fort in a quest. While the newspaper of winning side boasts about how glorious their victory was, the losing side's newspaper would try to cover it by some lie stories and excuses. It would be fun and ironical!

Also I would like the horsemen couriers to travel city by city, in order to deliver the news to everywhere quickly. And they would give the newspapers to the player as well, if they bump into him on he road. Just like how it was in Oblivion.

Imperials' side should be Black Horse Courier again, for lore-friendliness' sake. Well, I don't know about Stormcloaks' side. But it's name and general attitude should be something like that doesn't really smell like Nord racism in Windhelm, I mean, it should be addressing to every race, and it should be inviting, rather than being repulsive and illiterate like the average nord of Skyrim, I hope you get what I mean there... They should be the voice of Stormcloaks, but in a sophisticated and intelligent way, and they should be open to everyone, as most of the vanilla Stormcloak supporters already sound like f***ing raging cavemen who cannot make a point while they talk...

Well I think that multiple newspapers could make sense and be unique, with lets say the imperial and stormcloak ones, but besides the civil war what else could they differentiate between the two?

Also I understand the idea of the Black Horse Courier as the imperial one (for lore reasons) but the BHC talks about the entire empire and the current civil war in Skyrim is somewhat ignored by the empire's citizens all over the empire and thus would often talk about other things going on that we don't know of.

But disregarding that I think your idea of the stormcloak newspaper would make sense (maybe it could be in Winterhold, just to give those guys something to do) as the stormcloaks are the nords of skyrim who are both fierce warriors and amazing scholars and poets. Maybe it would actually be quite a twist if its written by a Dark elf from the grey quarter to add some interest to it.

But still I think we need to figure out a name(s)

I just came up with a cool idea, how about the newspaper(s) have hubs in some of the major cities that act as both a HQ for the newspapers to go and sell their papers but as also a post office.

By a post office I mean you could send things across skyrim similar to how it was done in FNV with the mojave express, this would be great as you could send your heavy gear to your house for easy pickup. Maybe the heavier the object or the more objects there are or even a weight threshold that anything over it would cost more in tax or something.

The post office could also be used to order things such as a rare ingredient/potion, a piece of armour or even an enchantment request to the college. This would be great for those people who don't specialise in smithing or alchemy or enchanting but still want the abilities available to them. Of course though there should be a downside to this such as the fact that you can't get the ability to enhance certain pieces of armour (as you wouldn't have the smithing perk) and that it'll cost a lot as you are also paying for the ingredients (e.g daedra hearts and ebony for deadric armour sets).

One last thing that would also make this mod very immersive would be the ability to buy full daedric armour at level 1 but for it to cost a lot of money (say $30-40,000), but it should lower the higher level you get.
