*snicker* Of course he is going to run again. In his mind, the country loves him, and needs him. Most of the republican party has pretty much abandoned him now though.... so, not sure if he will get the nomination. I certainly hope not. If he does, we can look forward to another dem pres. Even Hilary could win against him this time around. :D

Because he can. He believes fervently that he is the savior of America, the one destined to "Make America Great Again" (as if it ever stopped being great). He sees himself as the great leader, America's Nehemiah Scudder, the Great Father of the Nation, Der Fuehrer.

Der Fuehrer is probably closest to his beliefs ,as Trump is also a rabid Fascist. And in case you think that statement is just so much rhetoric, here are the warning signs/characteristics of Fascism.

  1. Powerful nationalist sentiment, including jingoism. This is characterized by the constant and continued use of patriotic mottoes, motifs, songs, flag waving/flying and military parades. Commonly referred to as “Cloaking oneself in the flag” or, “Hiding behind the flag”.
    https://www.jstor.org/stable/26328539

  2. An overwhelming obsession with national security. Fear of “the other” drives government agencies to increase their internal security to protect against perceived enemies, foreign and domestic. The government reduces immigration and closes borders to keep “undesirables” out. Foreign refugees are vilified as criminals.
    https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11089-011-0380-5

  3. The Military becomes increasingly powerful. Military spending far outstrips the needs of the military and begins to take a larger and larger portion of the nation’s resources. Military service and "the troops" are glorified.
    https://www.defensenews.com/pentagon/2018/11/14/a-crisis-of-national-security-new-report-to-congress-sounds-alarm/

  4. Human Rights are ignored as people come to fear enemies and press the need for security. As a result, people tend to turn a blind eye as the government undertakes to torture “enemies”, people tend to approve of long prison sentences for minor offenses and people condone executions for more and more offenses.
    https://www.hrw.org/news/2014/12/09/usa-and-torture-history-hypocrisy

  5. Politicians begin identifying “enemies” as a means to consolidate power. People are whipped into a patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common enemy. These common enemies break down along racial or ethnic lines, political lines, beliefs and religion lines (generally Antisemitism), or those with a different nation of origin (immigrants). “The Other” becomes the enemy.
    https://www.journalofdemocracy.org/articles/the-politics-of-enemies/
  6. The governing bodies become dominated by males. The roles for the genders become increasingly codified along “typical” lines. Divorce, abortions, homosexuality are suppressed, and outlawed. Women are pressured and then forced to leave the workforce.
    https://www.uschamber.com/workforce/data-deep-dive-a-decline-of-women-in-the-workforce

  7. The mass media will become increasingly controlled by the government. Intimidation, censorship, book banning, and book burning become the means to control the flow of information. Editorial pages will disappear when the rhetoric offends the government.
    https://www.theguardian.com/education/2022/sep/19/us-school-book-censorship-bans-pen-america

  8. Religion becomes increasingly interwoven with government policies. Religious phrases and beliefs make their way into political rhetoric, laws and court decisions. Politicians campaign on religious affiliations and religious beliefs.
    https://www.jstor.org/stable/10.1017/s0022381611001617

  9. Corporate power rises above the people. Laws increasingly protect the power of corporations and their profits, at the expense of the populous. This generally means that taxes are levied on the people, and not the corporations.
    https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/united-states/corporate/taxes-on-corporate-income

  10. The role of labor is diminished. Labor unions are first discouraged, and then persecuted, then prosecuted.
    https://www.bls.gov/opub/ted/2022/union-membership-rate-declines-in-2021-returns-to-2019-rate-of-10-3-percent.htm

  11. A concerted effort to reduce or eliminate higher education, learning, science and the arts. Anti-intellectualism becomes rampant, as education turns from teaching math, science and art to political and ideological indoctrination. The government begins telling schools what they can and cannot teach, what students can and cannot read, and what teachers can and cannot discuss.
    https://www.americanprogress.org/article/curriculum-reform-nations-largest-school-districts/

  12. Protect and serve become capture or kill as police power increases and accountability decreases. Law enforcement is given increased power as the perceived need for “security” is forcibly repeated and implemented into policy.
    https://publicintegrity.org/inside-publici/newsletters/watchdog-newsletter/supreme-court-police-accountability-qualified-immunity/

  13. Runaway nepotism, “cronyism” and “favoritism” as the offices of government become increasingly filled with the friends and families of powerful officials.
    https://amazoniainvestiga.info/index.php/amazonia/article/view/1382/1296

  14. Elections become a sham. Intimidation, coercion, smear campaigns, fraudulent lawsuits, conspiracies all become tools to cast doubt on the results of elections. Voters begin to lose confidence in their levers of democracy, and they yield more power to the government to decide who or what won (or should win) elections.
    https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2021/11/30/trumps-judicial-campaign-to-upend-the-2020-election-a-failure-but-not-a-wipe-out/

  15. The government begins requiring “national identification” for interstate travel. People are tracked as they travel around the nation and the world. The purchasing of tickets on interstate and international transportation requires national identification papers. All in the name of security.
    https://www.dhs.gov/real-id

  16. The subtlest change is in pronouns. We and Us becomes They and Them. We no longer think of our fellow citizens as "our fellow citizens", but as enemies to be dealt with or eliminated.

Well, fortunately, (hopefully?) we aren't stupid enough to re-elect him....... Although, we have done stupider things before......

I wonder if people learned from the four years he pretended to run the country. Or whether the "he won't get elected" talk is just 2015/2016 all over again.

Well, he didn't really do that bad of a job, with a few exceptions..... his personality though? Yeah, that leaves a lot to be desired, right along with the whole 'casual acquaintance with the truth'.... I would like to think the majority of folks have figgered out that he WOULD NOT be good for the country in a second term.... Quite the opposite, actually..... And I really would prefer NOT to find out. :D

This is the vision and direction Donald Trump, his supporters, and those who contend to be his political heirs are taking America.

Well, fortunately, (hopefully?) we aren't stupid enough to re-elect him....... Although, we have done stupider things before......

Maybe not Trump himself, but in his wake are a whole host of those who adhere to his beliefs. Governors, Secretaries of State, State Legislatures, US Senators, US Representatives, and local, State and Federal Judges who all believe as Trump does, and who have already demonstrated their willingness to follow in Trump's footsteps. Trump will pass, but his legacy is just as dangerous as he is. Maybe even more so, as his adherents have seen what is possible and they are emboldened.

And Trump didn't just appear in a vacuum. He stands on the shoulders of those who came before him. Those who entitled corporations to be counted as people for the purposes of campaign donations. Those who whittled away at the Voting Rights Act. Those that chipped away at the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment. Those who undermined the Civil Right Act. Those who pressured the IRS to not suspend the Tax Exemption for Churches, even though they were acting as Political Action groups. Those who fueled the cold war for the sake of corporate profits for the Military Industrial Complex. We arrived at Trump in a long and patient slog starting with Eisenhower and the end of WWII.

Our biggest mistake? We believed the Cold War ended when the Berlin Wall fell. Little did we appreciate that the Cold War simply moved inside our own borders and into our Governing bodies.

Take heart my free thinking friends in the U.S., as demonstrated in this thread there are at least 4 of you who see through him like a pane of glass, as I do, I hope for your sakes a few more hundred thousand have the insight of you people. I'm an Aussie but we get pounded with him as well, he's all over the news and just the sight of the guy and the sound of his voice rages me out, units that support him think when he's up there on stage clapping that he's giving them a round of applause, wrong, he's actually giving himself a round of applause and does this to prompt others to give him applause, it's really quite pathetic, the narcissist clown, now he's copying Musk and doing little jigs on stage as well that just further enrages me, the goose. Apologies for my low brow post that has the IQ of a Neanderthal but I find this man repulsive to the maximum degree and wish he would go away, promptly.

Right there with ya, my aussie friend. :D I wish he would just go away, and STAY away. His followers will slowly fade from the scene as well..... The republican party is already moving away from him.... his support keeps evaporating, but, he doesn't notice. Trump and Putin have a fair bit in common......
