The game does not run. Ever.

Hi there,

This has gotten to the point where I am desperately posting on internet forums asking for help.

Two days ago I tried to play the game through Steam and the game does not load, the little black box that says "Preparing to launch.." appears and then quickly disappears, momentarily saying that I am playing Dark Souls. In my task Manager processes it says that the DATA.exe and the Dark Souls exe are running, and then they immediately disappear. Now for my trouble shooting:

I have tried:

Uninstalling the game, running everything as an administrator

I've tried disabling UAC

I've tried running the game in compatibility mode with Windows XP service pack 2, as well as Windows 7

I've tried uninstalling Games for Windows Live, installing it with multiple different installers, from the real website, as well as installers posted on many help forums.

I've tried doing that in compatibility mode with windows XP SP 2 and W7, and as Administrator

When I click on "Verify integrity of game cache..." it successfully completes and every time it says that there is one file missing; when I try to run the game afterwards it does a "first time installation" type deal and say's it's installing GFWL, but to no avail, this has not worked.

I have tried uninstalling my xbox controller drivers

I have tried re-installing the windows live sign in assistant, but I always have the newest version

I have tried re-installing Steam

I have tried to use DSFix in desperate home that it would somehow work

I have tried installing GFWL and stopping Dark Souls from installing it itself, so as to keep the latest version installed.

I have tried gone into the Dark Souls folder and tried to run its own GFWL installer AND its DirectX installer

The list probably can go on...

I have:

GTX 570 (latest drivers)

intel i5 2500k quad core

some new motherboard

I am running Windows 7 64 bit

As you can see I am desperate, I am in your hands, and I am at the mercy of the internet..
