CTD on sleep or wait

Hi, whether i try with mods or not after about 2 hours of gameplay my game crashes to desktop when i wait or sleep. Any ideas how to fix this? As i said ive tried with and without mods, im currently using mods and will attach my mod and load order and system specs. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi, thanks for your assistance. Yes, I have been using the 4gb ram patcher, so unfortunately that mustn't be the problem.

You say it is both with and without mods? That makes things more complicated in a lot of ways. The main thing that it can be would be something to do with a bad driver, a memory leak, or a hardware issue.

 

Your best bet is to take the time to update all your drivers for your hardware, update all your software, run extra virus scans to make sure RAM isn't getting eaten, and uninstall/reinstall DirectX 9.0c.

 

The other idea would be maybe there is a "compatibility mode" that works for your system. I don't know what version of Oblivion you are using, but you can try different compatibility options to possibly make the game more stable.

I reinstalled directX 9.0c and it made no changes, and sadly my game ctds on startup in compatibility mode. I honestly don't know what else could be causing the crashes. I didnt even get to play for 2 hours this time. It's like once i do a certain amount of quests it just stops working. Maybe the save files are the problem? But ive tried cleaning them and it says theres no save bloat to clean.

For some advice: start from the cleanest point you can. Try to get rid of everything possible, then after cleaning, check your updates. Once you get yourself set, take everything one step at a time. Don't just install Oblivion again, take the time to look at the issue from different angles. What other software or hardware issues could you have? Does something need to be upgraded or replaced?

 

Once you know everything with your computer itself is good, start with a fresh copy of the game. You should put in the bugfix and patch mods, then run the game and test the stability. I can't help you much more than that. Sorry.

Ok so it turns out my theory is probably right. Once my save file reaches a certain size it keeps crashing on travel, wait or sleep. I have tried to disable auto save on these actions but I still experience ctd. Is anyone able to help? Im beyond frustrated and fear I have to give up on playing oblivion.

Do you see anything that may indicate the A-Bomb ( jerky or slow opening/closing animated doors and gates or lazy weird flames on torches held by NPCs etc)?
