The RepublicDC lay on the other side of the Ponatomic River from the great, maritime museum, based Rivetcity whose name came from some of the older ships there that used rivets in their construction. That is before World War Two. Later ships had been welded, and then melded, together.

As a civil conflict raged across the river, Rivetcity was on high alert in case it threatened to spill across the river but so far it had failed to do so. Then came the first, small, fleet of refugees and what ever useful resources that they had managed to bring with them.

They spoke of 'traitors working with outsiders' to overthrow the legitimate RepublicDC Federal Government. They mentioned, though they knew little detail about them, outsiders assisting the GuardiaDC, the defense force of the RepublicDC; they were the Ironsides Mercenaries as paid for by a mysterious third party, the SteelMisfits Order in their patchwork power armour, and the Helpers Guild who aided in a more peaceful manner.

There were disturbing stories, on the whispernet, about the outsiders who were allied to the traitors, such as that the humans did not appear to be actually human and that there were strange, terrible, creatures fighting alongside them.

A LittleFateWatcher, and through it the LittleFateObserver, knew that there were androids and cyborged genetic beasts allied to the traitors. There were strong hints that the New Britain based MonobitriquaInstition, a name that both informed and deceived, was involved. It was also known as the 1234I for short. There was no great certainty that the rebellion truly worked with the 1234I or was an aspect of it.

The normally ignored machine, of many blinking lights in the corner, 'binged' three times and this time it meant something, was somehow 'remembered' by the five. The sisters went to the machine, together, and each pressed a big, red, button marked 'Never Press This'. Only because they did so at precisely the same moment did a soft sparkling shimmer go through them and the five, special, sleeping animals now snuggled up with other animals.

They once more were aware that they were Chosen Ones with double deep identities; they were outworlders of that crazy quasireality based on a range of advanced electronic media including at least one, major, game. They were supergeniuses, supersoldiers, with strange gifts, and also greatly skilled, experienced, gamers. Along with other Chosen Ones they had been sent into the quasireality, merged into it, to discover what was going wrong with the troubled, troublesome, world; clearly the experiment, that had cost a great deal of resources to carry out, was starting to fail or was that the case?

Just as importantly they had knowledge that the insiders did not have, at least in theory. They could, carefully, manipulate the quasireality in a more direct fashion and they even had some of the less powerful cheat codes that they could also use with care; they also had non cheat codes of some usefulness.

Fallout SVR (Super Virtual Reality) Series was, apparently, the most dominant influence on the quasireal gameworld along with its DLCs and some gaming mods linked to it. Except this conclusion was far from being dead certain and, of course, more investigations were called for.

They did not have much to report and yet Chosen Command made no complaint but simply informed them that more, special, resources had been sent to them along with some unexplained extras that 'would assist them in their mission'.

During the second, in which they pressed the red buttons, in another way much more time passed and then they were returning fully to the chamber. They looked at each other for they did not truly trust 'Chosen Command' but they were far more suspicious of those WPIFs (Wealthy Powerful Influential Factions) who commanded them.

It was mistakenly reported that regular Steeltroopers were the first to fight, in the Trenchzone, against a mercenary army of supermutants and zyclops. The truth was that Steelmercs, rogue former Steelbrothers working as expensive, elite, mercenaries were often using copies of old fashioned weapons to strike at their mercenary enemies; otherwise they utilised standard type Steelbrotherhood arms such as powerful battlerifles, lasers and missile launchers.

The 105mm howitzers were identical to those used way back in WW2. Eight of them, as provided by a third party known as the Provisioning Circle, kept up firing volleys of shells at known enemy positions. Every so often, with difficulty, they were moved along the very biggest type of ditches to new locations. This was because the enemy forces were largely made up of dumbheads but those in command seemed to be far more intelligent.

Small vertibird like vertidrones shot overhead, as controlled by the Supermercs metamutants being physically weaker than supermutants, and smaller, but far smarter. Eyebots served the Steelmercs in the same fashion. The fighting raged on but did not have any clear purpose to it. Trenches were captured, lost and recaptured; trench linked bunkers, and tunnels, were the scene of savage skirmishes as much as the actual ditches were.

As suddenly as it had begun it ended with both forces withdrawing away from each other, taking their gear with them including portable turrets and robots.

The LittleFateObserver noted the brief appearance of three, translucent, figures floating over the Trenchzone as overdressed military commanders being garish and impractical in dress. After a few seconds, of looking around, they simply vanished just as they had appeared in the first place.

Jillian, and all of the animals, who were greatly increased in number, where sitting in the cave like chamber while Jessica waggled her finger at them as she informed them that they were all 'cheeky chops'. Of course, not longer after, they were all playing though some were slower than others and, being much smaller than the others, kept to one side for safety reasons. So it was the other three sisters arrived and joined in one of what became known as the Cheeky Chops Games.

With everybody quietened down, most animals sleeping the fun off, the quintuplets worked the codes as they caused a console to materialise into midair. They read 3Ddatasymbols, took in 3Dimages, along with other information. Such had been added to, slowly-steadily, since before their births into that quasireality of the gameworld. The five formed a very secure psychic linkage and telempathed with each other.

Jasmine: "Not just one gameworld but more than one making up, together, a multigameworld; the ramifications of this are disturbing for this means originally planned gameworld boundaries have been breached, distorted, so what else is out there apart from this complicated gameworld of Terra."

Jessica: "To deal with that, and other arising challenges, we need to bring a crafting station into existence or perhaps more than one!"

Jillian: "A settlements crafting station, a personal gear crafting station, a robotics crafting station, an equipment-supplies pack station, an exotics crafting station and a miscellaneous crafting station are available but if we buy-install them all it will great reduce the amount of gamecredit that we have accumulated."

Juniper: "Before that we need to activate the Safe Game Home that we have just obtained."

So they began the installation of the SGH that, in theory, they should have gained much earlier; it was not the first discrepancy that had occurred in the Chosen Ones Plan as it seemed that those supposedly in control were not so, at least not as much as they stated they were. In the finally completed SGH they would find surprises being a mix of good, neutral and not so good in quality.

The five Jsisters, as Chosen Ones known as the J5/15, obtained an early version of the SGH that was entered, exited, through various means. Though 'bigger inside than out', or so was the illusion, it was of only one large chamber at first though there were connected smaller, open doorway, antechambers and doored sidechambers along with open sided alcoves. From the start it proved to be useful and also to be a fine sanctuary for flora, fauna and fungi that gave in turn even if they were unaware of doing so.

The five Mbrothers, as Chosen Ones being the M5/15, arrived at TechVault101DC as ex-settler refugees; they were admitted, by the Overseers, into the Caves101DC, because they were needed; that is they were well experienced, and skilled, in working in an environment like that of the great artificial-natural cave system with its very large caverns at center. The brothers were Mathew, Menzie, Michel, Morris and Murphy being identical quintuplets. They were not to be confused with the other, younger, five brothers that were not Chosen Ones.

First flash, of rainbow-yellow-white, energies in TechVault101DC but in an area that officially did not exist. In that largely bare, never used utility-chamber, was soon a transformed environment along with two floating spheres, the first being of ever flowing rainbow-yellow-white patterns and the second of basic offwhite colouration. Then more changes started to occur!

Compnet101DC hummed busily across its network linked computer hubs and other facilities-utilities. Subtle, changing, energies flowed into and through it. True AI smartcomputers, organic biocomputers, quantum megacomputers and advanced supercomputers all fell under the influence of the celestial newcomers. Enhancing, upgrading and augmenting processes began.

A comptroller, supervisor class, noted some odd flashing datasymbols on a datascreen but then it was gone and she dismissed it as just one more, minor, glitch of the kind that happened too often. The vaultsuited woman went back to reading the latest edition of the Overseers' Voice, a propaganda driven monthly newsmagazine that was partly interesting. The comic section was mildly amusing and that is what she focused on.

Overseer Alphonse Almodovar frowned hard at this personal advisers seated before his grand looking desk. Frowning was his forte, his common expression, but it varied in intensity. Now it was just moderately hard. "So the new convoy was let in despite the Isolationist Policy."

Adviser Sandran, of Caves101DC Activities, spoke. "We had to have them with their great deal of experience, skills and resources that TechVault101DC needs. They have agreed to settle down in the Caves101DC and to stay out of the rest of TechVault101DC. I gained the impression that they preferred it this way as they have some odd, negative, notions about techvault life. They brought with them farmers, artisans, some moderately well armed militia, cattle, poultry, fermules (nearly always fertile mules), robots, remoterobots, vehicles though most are horse drawn, horses, dogs, cats and a few extras."

Hamel Sandran was a fairly thin, young, man of the Founding Families Elites. Yet he knew to tread carefully when it came to dealing with the Overseer of Demivault101DC01 for the man had a volatile temperate. He continued. "Most importantly they brought with them hard data on conditions in DC and even beyond the DC Borders. A major threat is coming from the north in the form of the EagleEnclavers. The SteelOrderhood has completed its occupation moves into CitadelDC. Increasingly more refugees are coming from the north. Reavers are attacking from the Atlantic Ocean. The RepublicDC appears to be involved in some kind of civil war."

The Overseer frowned more softly. "Did you inform them that nobody leaves after they come here?"

The adviser nodded. "I do not think that they want to depart from here, given what is going on up on the surface."

Alphonse frowned, of course! "VaultTech set this place up as an experiment in isolationism. Past Overseers have flaunted the experimental protocols by sending expeditionary parties to the settlement of Megaton. While most expeditionaries returned, some remained there as a security risk to TechVault101DC. Perhaps it is time that they were dealt with but not as yet. There are the growing internal problems with the expanding reformist movement and those damned rebels. Then there is the trouble with mutated radroaches."

Sandran nodded. "Radroachers is what Vaultfolk are calling them. The name started out in Caves101DC."

Alphonse snorted. "I need to think; if there is nothing else, of importance, to report then depart!"

Adviser Janewa Sanderson, of Technical Operations, spoke out. "I have a most unusual report to give that goes against what might be called common logic. It started out as a series of odd, minor, glitches in Compnet101DC." She paused as if reluctant to go on but then surged ahead. "It now appears that the whole network-system has been infiltrated but also altered as in upgraded, augmented and even expanded. Being reluctant to come forth with such a crazy idea, I have gathered a large amount of proof to back up my claims."

The Overseer appeared ready to accuse her of being a fool, of jesting, but then settled back. "Given some of the strange incidents, that have happened in TechVault101DC, I choose to believe you and will go through copies of your collected data. I also want a general review begun, of Demivault101DC, that all of us will be managing; It will be but part of a TechVault101DC wide report. Details will be Emailed to you."

He did not explain what he meant by 'strange incidents' and none of the advisers chose to seek an explanation.

UniversityDC people worked the WastelandsDC Census knowing it was not very likely to be accurate but then came a surprise donation of valuable data fed straight into their mainframe supercomputer in a seemingly impossible manner.

Over 40% of the WastelandersDC were ghoulified with about 70% of them being 'ferals' of defensive aggressive radghoulins, berserker aggressive radghoulers, nocturnal radghoulocs, and a few of smaller, rarer, types. The non feral ghoulified were more intelligent radghoulmans of which 40% were visibly, heavily, damaged, 30% were moderately damaged, 20% were lightly damaged and 10% were not visibly damaged.

Professor Elaine Einstein studied the figures forming, as a diagram, on a lightly damaged 3Dwallscreen. "Amazing, so there are radghoulified out there that are able to mingle with the non radghoul population but do they?" Around her academic staff, students and a few volunteers were super busy putting all reliable, available, data to use. "If there was that false assumption made, of the populations, then what others have been made?"

Over 30% of WastelandersDC were radfolk of radhumans and less human like radmans; about one third, of those, were radhumans!

Elaine shook her head. "Who would have guessed that there would be so many radmans out there."

UniversityDC used to be a prototype TechVault gifted to the WashingtonDC University by loyal, former, academics and students working for VaultTech. So the WashingtonDC University had moved into the location in the last few months before Doomsday.

The others were vaultfolk, bunkerfolk, animal-human hybrids of animafolk, mutantfolk being mostly supermutants, more sophisticated types of androids, advanced synthdroids, shelterfolk, and a few more.

Elaine shook her head. "Plantfolk, what are plantfolk? Then there are those zetanfolk, are they just zetans? Smart robots are classed as WastelandersDC! Then there are the less than 1% that are unidentified."

There was much work to do that would be followed by even more in that great big chamber!

What did it matter who came with sought after artefacts eager to gain what they though was valuable in return. Atomic motors, atomic batteries, hihitech computer components, sophisticated specialist robotics, rare artworks, hard to get publications of books, prototype devices, precious antiques, vials of research achieved biological substances and more. Radgangers, radgangers, scavengers, salvagers, or just anybody who sought what was wanted or even was lucky to find them, came to get cheated; for, of course, they gained far less than the real value of the items that they gave over.

Psycho, ammo, slippipeguns, stimpaks, MREs, knives, coffee powder, body-armour, basic medical stuff and much else of the kind was what the fools wanted and got! Largely illiterate, the radfolk often wanted young children's comic books that were surprisingly popular but so was pornography amongst the men.

Now, and then, an annoying group of smarties would come along who would gain more but they usually gave even more for what they gained and tended to be more dependable.

Still, good loot was getting harder to access as it was stripped from easier to reach, less dangerous, areas first. How far would people go to gain bottles of chilled NukaCola Original? It was not likely that they would dare being shredded by bullet resistant deathclaws to do so or want to face oncoming waves of insanely enraged radghoulers.

Shankers, who bought the items for a secretive faction, that provided the items that he paid the fools with, shut up shop one day and vanished away into the WastelandsDC. He figured it was time to go when going was best but the tall, angular, figure just missed out on an amazingly valuable find in doing so.
