Travelling Redone - Travelocity

Now, I would love to make this mod. I, however, have very limited experience in the creation kit, and I expect a majority of these features would be hard to implement. I have, however, thought through this mod very thoroughly and would highly appreciate it if somebody would pick this up with the intention of finishing it. I have seen too many good mods fail to be completed.

Features -

  • Paper map

  • Map is an item(Only usable if you have it).

  • Removes fast travelling

  • Add planned traveling(See below).

  • Stowing away on carriages and appearing in random villages and locations

  • Percent chance(Based on difficulty) of being attacked by bandits/giants/dragons during a carriage ride(Stow away or not).

  • Sneak skill determines distance travelled in a carriage before being found.

  • Weight of armor makes it easier to be found, like sneaking.

The Map and Planned Travelling -

I was thinking how I could make getting lost from being attacked by bandits while in a carriage a bigger deal. How lost could you ever be if you could just fast travel? So instead, the map is now an item. They can be bought at general goods shops, so your first one will probably be from Riverwood. They could also be crafted using a roll of paper and an ink pot or charcoal. Every new map you craft will be blank. What does this mean? You have to rediscover all your waypoints! To make this not totally annoying, and to give you a reason to fight the bandits instead of just running. They have your map, and to find your way around Skyrim, you have to get it back!

Now, because fast travelling is… lame… we’re switching it up. Instead you have planned travelling! With your map open, you can click on your character marker and it will start to make a path. Just move your cursor around and it will plan a trip. After your path is created, it will ask you if you want to pay any carriages you walk past, stow away in them, or ignore them. How does Planned Travelling differ from Fast Travelling? Instead of giving you a loading screen, it will give you the waiting time box, and give you a visual of your map as you travel, at roughly ten times the normal game speed. Occasionally while using Planned Travelling you may be attacked like during a carriage trip. You can also stop at any point during the planned travel.

Stowing Away on Carriages -

When boarding a carriage, if you have not yet paid the driver for the trip, your character will hide under the carriage and you will show up in a random location. This is more like fast travel, just to give you the feel of mystery as you travel. To make it slightly more immersive, you will be given the “well rested” and “rock joint” effects when you reach your destination, wherever that may be. You may be found in the carriage at any point during its trip. This is determined by two things, your sneak skill and your armor weight. Of all carriage raids, 65% will be bandits, 20% will be giants, 10% will be dragons, and there is a 5% chance of your driver being an idiot and driving off a cliff...The chance of your carriage getting attacked is variable based on difficulty.

There are a lot of carriage mods on the Nexus, such as scenic carriages, real carriages, and touring carriages. Personally, I never fast travel and use Frostfall to restrict me from it. You can get attacked in most of the carriage mods, though not with bandits taking your stuff and all that. If your carriage goes by a bandit camp they will agro to you. If they are aggressive enough I jump out of the carriage and battle, else I just tell the driver to speed it up. Same thing with any other enemy. Moreover, dragons will attack you. I've never really been in love with the Skyrim map, but it's not that bad. The paper map would certainly be a lot cooler, but that would be quite the undertaking to mod. Furthermore, I don't really have the free time anymore to do it.

With regards to stowing away, it's a neat concept, but I can't see anybody ever using it. It has no purpose because you show up in a random location. It would be better to stow away on a carriage going to your location, and if you are caught you get a bounty or are sent to jail.

all that you would need now is to eliminate the original map access and instead need a map item that you would "read" and it would take you to the map like before. I don't know how to make scripts yet so I wouldn't know how to do this for you

The script for doing that would be quite simple, or they could just unmap their key in their settings. The large undertaking would be making it so the map is blank and then gets 'discovered'. Wait, I might have misinterpreted this. Are you talking about waypoints or are you talking about a Minecraft style map?
