Creating LOD Trees, troubleshooting.

Hi,

I've recently been creating a new worldspace and everything is working great, LOD landscape (meshes and textures) working great. I've tried using the regions tool to layout the trees I want scattered around (basic dead ones) and the generation of them works and they appear in game, however I'm having trouble generating the LOD for them.

If anyone has had any luck generating tree LOD please reply to this topic, thanks.

Martin

what is the issue your having with the Tree LOD? Are you getting funky looking LOD textures? If so you'll find the GECK (For some Reason) doesn't create the proper transparency when generating objects such as Joshua trees or even tower lines.

go to Textures\landscape\LOD\Your worldspace\blocks and open the Yourworldspace.buidings.dds with photoshop or Gimp and you can fix the transparency.

If that is not your issue please give more info on the problem and I'll try to help.

I don't have any tree LOD at all. When I go into World LOD and try to generate Tree LOD nothing is actually generated in the source or worldspace tree block folders. I'm on my phone at the moment, but I remember a message coming up when trying to generate tree LOD saying "TreeDead01 has tree lod box ticked but no mesh" I'll double check tomorrow. I was wondering if it was something to do with .speedtree files. Ahhh! It hurts your head when you've been trying to do something for months! Lol

There is just one real tree in speedtree format in FalloutNV and two bushes.

If the other trees are handled like all other LOD objects I think you need to extract the LOD counterparts for the trees you using like for Houses and similar and make them available when creating LOD in GECK.

There are some that been there done that, just wait a bit and they drop in and clear it out for you.

Okey,

I made a quick search through an extracted folder of meshes.bsa searching for trees and _LOD.nif (LOD .nif is what you need) of the same and there was none!

So if no other have better luck or conclusion I think Bethesda with all the other leftovers decided exclusively trees LOD should not going into the release version?!?

Hey, the form ID's of the trees I'm using are:

  • TreeDead03 - 000155A9
  • TreeDead04 (child to TreeDead03) - 000155AB

Here's what I'm doing:

Steps 1,2,3,4. Pic

Steps 5,6,7,8. Pic

  1. Using Regions tool, create a new region and make a region area. Drag & drop TreeDead03 & TreeDead04 from Object Window > Statics with both of them using the settings shown.
  2. Settings screenshot, same settings as trees used in other Regions.
  3. General tab.
  4. Right clicking and generating objects for that area.
  5. Generation complete and visible in render window (works in game too but not LOD yet) Also, highlighting TreeDead03 in cell view is greyed out and says (Current user: The region system)
  6. Open World LOD and try to generate Trees for my worldspace, Yes to all.
  7. Generation 'completes'.
  8. Nothing new appears in Source folder, in Meshes/landscape/lod/JunktownWorldspace a Trees folder is made with a file inside it called TreeTypes.lst. In cell view the trees are still greyed out, in game LOD for trees still does not work.

Sorry if that's a little long and confusing...

I'll try and mess about with your LOD files, thank god I keep backups of all my projects so I can restore from earlier.

Anyway, if you can help I would appreciate it :)
