I was just wondering which system people think they're going to get in the end.

Personally I think I'll do as I did in the last next-gen war and go for the Playstation 3. It just seems to be the one in the past to end up with most of the RPGs, except for the ones Microsoft manages to nab exclusive rights to (yeah, all 2 or 3 of them). Playstation has always had the Final Fantasy series, the Breath of Fire series, all sorts of decent JRPGs that can last for excesses of 50 hours plus and maintain a good level of quality (IMO).

XBox seems to be the one to end up with lots of actioney titles with pretty lights and explosioney things, but not exactly games with a lot of depth. It just tends to rely on the fact it has online facilities to attract customers. If I want online gaming I'll play on my PC. :P Not saying that some of the games aren't fun, because they are... they just don't seem to last very long. And the really big titles that do have potential to them usually end up on the Playstation as well anyway. Or, if they're XBox only, tend to end up coming out for the PC. Not to mention Microsoft seem to think they have the right to charge excessive amounts of money for their system. I wonder if they're going to do that this time as well?

As for Revolution, well... it's a nice small design and all as before, but Nintendo just don't tend to get many games that appeal to me. I bought a Gamecube but I'm kind of regretting it. Damn Harvest Moon seduced me into it. :P

Obviously I'll do more research closer to the release dates, but in the end I think the Playstation 3 will be the one for me.

Don't buy consoles, but if I did I'd get the XBox 360 -- providing it can still be chipped. Got a friend with a chipped XBox and it's well worth it, but only when it's chipped. I think I'll wait and see. Needless to say I won't be buying any consoles, I'll just be using the ones my friend's get ;)

I'll never go to the dark side. (aka playstation). There trying to take over the world and have a secret acord with EA to blow up microsoft into little bits. Die sony the annoying people who sell piece of crap systems that break after three months.

And nintenedo is going down the drain so i'd go to Xbox 360.

Plus who would want boomerang shaped controller's like the ones set for PS3

Where's all this Sony is teh evil!!1 stuff coming from anyway? :P I never thought Microsoft had any business stuffing their thumb into the console gaming pie anyway. Let's face it, the XBox is in the end a glorified gaming computer created so they can make even more money.

I've had my PS2 for about 3-4 years and it's never given me the remotest bit of grief. I've heard of XBoxes crashing and having to be replaced however, and they even had to release special power cables to everyone whose XBox was manufactured before a certain date as the ones that were already used could be a fire hazard! ^^;

And the PS3 is a glorified gaming computer created so they can make even more money, the Revolution is a glorified gaming computer created so they can make even more money, just like every console since the beginning. If you think these companies have any motivation beyond "make money", you're crazy. Microsoft is no better or worse than the other console manufacturers.

Why does Microsoft have no business making a console?

Anyway, where's the "none of the above, all are a waste of money" option? The processors are massively over-rated, with sub-PC performance, so all you're left with is the pretty graphics (which will be available for PC games soon enough). And of course all of these are high-resolution still screenshots. For those of us who can't spend $5,000 on a tv, the resolution limits are still going to be a huge disadvantage. You aren't going to see that kind of quality in the real world.

I'd rather buy a few good PC games than pay a ton of money for shallow gameplay and pretty pictures.

Ok maybe I worded that poorly (although you can make anything look negative :P) the XBox is more like a glorified gaming computer than the others. It's built more like a computer, with the inherent faults therein. Such as random disk rejection...

And they had no business because they've already made so much money by monopolising the computing industry. IMO going into consoles was unnecessary and perhaps a tad greedy.

The reason for getting a console would be because the games can't be played on PC. Yes it's giving in to the companies trying to make money off it, but hey, if you find it enjoyable...

There are emulators I know, but they're of questionable quality and difficult to get games working on. Let's not discuss anything more on that here though. :P

The gameplay is anything but shallow on good console titles. Depends which ones you've played, I suppose.

The biggest advantage of consoles that I can see is their portability. Try stuffing a fully fledged PC into your holiday luggage.... yet a PS1 or PS2 can be accommodated without difficulty, and still keep the kids entertained.

Marvellous.

I can't say that I have any great interest in consoles - I'd rather upgrade my PC - but it's very likely that at some point or another we will acquire another one. Which one will depend mainly on the titles available, and on backwards compatibility with older games.

To tell you the truth I'll probably end up getting both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, I have a PS2 and Xbox. I've also never had any trouble with my Xbox, which I got about a month after it came out. My PS2s fine ,too.

XBox 360... Microsoft has secured several JRPG designers that are already planning quite a few games for the system. Revolution? Maybe. I've absolutely loved every Nintendo console, but until I know more about it, I'll pass. And PS3? One word: boomerang.
