Roleplaying What Is Your Character's Background?

What kind of character do you roleplay? What build? What is his/her background story? What is the motif? What are the goals in Skyrim?

The motif of my newest character was to be a neutral or chaotic evil person who wreaks havoc in Skyrim and attempts to destroy it through strategic and intelligent means like a mastermind instead of through brute means like maybe a stupid orc would do.

This character is a young female Altmer named Lilitha who has a natural talent in all of the arcane and combat arts as well as crafting. Her build is a Heavy Amor wearing, Destruction magic and Sword weilding Battlemage but she also likes to switch to Knight, Warrior, Mage, and Assassin/Thieve builds every now and then. She likes to craft and enchant weapons and armor and brew potions, generally to increase her skill in those areas as well as to suplement herself.

She lost both her parents when they died fighting against the Empire and she has since borne hatred towards all humans with the exception of some Bretons. When she came of age she enlisted into the Thalmor and became a regular soldier for sometime but was recognized as "special" by the Thalmor intelligence and espionage agency so she was placed into a program that would train and prepare her to become a sleeper agent within Skyrim. The Thalmor wanted the civil war between the Stormcloak rebels and the Empire to weaken both sides enough so that the Almeri Dominion could easily invade and conquer Skyrim and a large portion of the Empire in the initial strike. It was preferable that the Empire did not win (although not necessarily that the Stormcloaks should win either) so that an independent but weakened Skyrim would fall more easily. Lilitha along with another were the only high elves in the program considering the Empire and Nords would be most suspicious of them being Thalmor spies, therefore, the program was made up mostly of Bosmer and Khajiit. The group of spies was split and sent to Skyrim through different entries as sleeper agents who would live their life normally until given instructions by the Thalmor. Lilith however was given the mission of ensuring that the Stormcloaks win the war forcing the Empire to retreat from Skyrim. Lilith was placed in Cyrodiil and made to enter through the Falkreath Hold as a traveler and in time enlist in the Stormcloak army. Coincidentally, she was caught in an Imperial ambush to capture Jarl Ulfric Stormcloak himself and feared that she was going to die at the hands of the same bastards who killed her parents. Just then as she looked up to the executioner with resent and disgust she saw a dragon in the sky. The dragon attacked Helgen and inadvertently saved her where she attempted to escape and assisted a Stormcloak soldier named Ralof who then suggested she join the Rebellion.

She joined the Stoarmclocks after finding out that she is dragonborn, information which she relayed to the Thalmor. The Thalmor allowed her to continue investigating the manner but reminded her that her priority was the mission given to her. She was ordered to infiltrate the Thieves Guild specifically in order to have access to their network of spies and information and also ordered her to investigate the matter of the Aretino boy and the black sacrament in Windhelm while she was there. This lead to her involvment with the Dark Brotherhood which she ultimately joined. When she found out about Alduin the World Eater and her fate as Dragonborn the Thalmor decided that she must defeat Alduin, however, she was still expected to finish her mission of ensuring Stormcloak victory before pursuing this task. After the war ends with the victory of the Stormcloaks and the defeat of Alduin, the Thalmor give her a new assignment with documents describing an elaborate scheme to manipulate Aumund Motierre into seeking a contract with the Dartk Brotherhood in order to assassinate the Emperor Titus Mede II. Lilith fails in her first assassination attempt on the Emperor as she was betrayed by the leader of her sanctuary but she ultimately succeeds in assassinating the Emperor. Afterwards she is ordered to assassinate Motierre in order to "tie up loose ends", ironically, even the late emperor asks her to kill the one who made the contract with her. In the end Thalmor orders for her are to remain in Skyrim as a sleeper agent until she is needed again.

Well that was my long story about my character :D What is your character like? What is the background story?

My current character is a Dunmer Nightblade, starting as a refugee on Solstheim with Alternate Start.

She went there from Vvardenfell with her grandmother, who sadly died on the way. The rest of her family were already dead. She spent most of her youth playing instruments and wanted to be a Bard, but now she wishes she spent more time helping her Grandmother with her alchemy potions as she has found or stolen a huge amount of Scathecraw, Ash Creeper, Ash Spawn, Ash Yam and lots of small pearls.

She has the usual Dunmer predelictions towards certain skills, and as a Nightblade (Daggerfall style), being basically a Mage/Thief, she focuses on:

Magicka:Health:Stamina 3:3:3

PRIMARY
    Sneak
    Illusion
    One-Handed

SECONDARY
    Alchemy
    Enchanting
    Lockpicking

TERTIARY
    Destruction
    Alteration
    Restoration
    Light Armor
    Speech
    Smithing

SPECIAL
    No Shields
    No Bows
No Helmets (circlets and hoods only)

She found Sosltheim to be fairly hostile and much of the local wild life too powerful for her. The most disconcerting thing was playing at the Wretched Netch and waking up working on the Sun Stone monument on the other side of the island. Getting back was a pretty dangerous trip, as she had no real weapons or armour. She had to run from everything she encountered as they all tried to kill her on sight, until she met a friendly Ashlander. She then found some strange giant mushroom houses, but the Mage's apprentice conjured some sort of Dust Atronach, so she legged it again.

There is not a lot of light armour to be found on Solstheim and she lacks the strength and endurance to learn to use heavy bonemold. In any case, it interferes too much with her primary and secondary skills. She cannot even find any spells to buy, so she decided to go to Windhelm in Skyrim; surely a more friendly place towards a young Dark Elf like herself?

Being already slightly maladjusted by her experiences as a child, she pretty much hates Imperials because they conquered Morrowind and did not help in the Red Year or when Black Marsh invaded. The Argonians she hated already. She is not fond of Bosmer as they sided with the Altmer and pretty much hates the Altmer because they didn't help Morrowind any more than the Empire did.

So she is off to Windhelm to make friends with the Nords and become a Bard rather than slide down the slippery slope towards becoming a Shadowblade Assassin. After all, their High King took her people in after the Red Year, so they must REALLY like the Dunmer...

My character is an Imperial priestess of Dibella. Well, she was, after a Forsworn attack nearly killed her. A lone man scared off the Reachmen by his presence and she blacked out. Whe she came back to herself, she realized she was in a coffin. The former priestess found out she was in Solitude the moment she opened the lid. Since she blamed the Divines for not helping her when she needed them the most, she forsake her priesthood and started to live her life with her new gift: vampirism.

In her quest for vengeance, she decided to join the Legion to learn how to fight. She is not someone ideological, putting the knowledge of combat above it.

Well, that's her story so far. She protected Whiterun and conquered Dawnstar and Riften.

What I try to focus on:

One-Handed

Smithing

Enchanting

Light Armor

Destruction

Restoration

Her future: I'll make her join the Volkihars, obviously. After that, maybe the College.

My character: Ro'aan Kane 34 years old. Though he appears a tall Nord and is mistaken for one, he is in fact a born Werewolf, a race of their own. He hails from the inaccessible mountainous regions bordering Skyrim and Cyrodiil, coming from a Tribe calling themselves the 'Tal'ies' spread through various connected mountainous regions between province borders....He was caught in the Imperial Ambush by simply wandering too far down into the Skyrim province on the hunt.

The Tal'ies are more beast than man, Kane being no exception, he is very elemental and animalistic in his approach...he has no moral standing, though neither is he immoral, also lacks empathy, though he cannot 'lie', he doesn't understand the concept. Kane is an Apex Predator with no mandate, no hidden agenda's, no plans, he is purely a hunter and loves the hunt and the greater the challenge in the hunt and the battle the better, its what drives him. He does take offense to one thing...the taking away of 'freedom' and so thus he free's any and all he finds who are bound or caged prisoners, whether that be man or beast.

He joins no Guilds and does no favors, he will if he has the required items on him give them to people who ask for them, though he doesn't generally collect things so that's a bit of a hit or miss affair whether he carries those items at the time or not. He does wipe out the DB for the challenge of battle and the TG (as a stealth hunter he mistakes them for more of the 'low life' he had to fight his way through and so takes the first shot). He does do the MQ, nothing like battling Dragons to entice an Apex Predator... ...and does the Dawnguard, as a Werewolf he has a natural hatred and aversion to walking dead things and so is drawn to an outfit that specializes in killing Vampires and he relishes it....kills Serana once she is no longer of use to him, a Vamp is a Vamp, a walking dead thing.

Doesn't buy or sell anything, doesn't understand the concept or the society he finds himself in and always sleeps outside. He crafts all that he uses and only picks up what he needs for his crafting and food (lives on water and raw Predator flesh...animal and humanoid) and so doesn't tend to steal either, vendors simply don't have what he wants....neither does he loot or take items found unless their of use to him, never touches coins. He only carries what he needs on him, very rarely anything more.

Does not trust Magic, has a deep aversion to it and so doesn't use enchanted items and has no magic of his own (I use a mod that removes starter spells).

As for skills...:

Primary

Light Armor

Stealth

Archery

Smithing

Alchemy (Poisons only)

Secondary

Two Handed

One Handed

Most of his battles are fought beginning with Archery, then transforming to Werewolf form (can change back and forth at will at any time)....Relies heavily on tactics and strategy, is a patient Hunter and Warrior, takes his time (is most usually alone, very rarely has a companion)...I use Mods to up the challenges.

My character I am playing with now is a Nord man named Wolstein who was born in Skyrim but moved with his family to Cyrodiil when he was a young child. He has a deep seated hatred for the Empire and the Imperials because of past mistreatments, especially in his youth. The only thing he hates more than the Empire is the Thalmor, because he doesn't like elves and those bastards are trying to take over all of Tamriel. He is wary of the beast races and doesn't exactly trust them, but he will trade with the Khajiit caravans if need be. He comes to Skyrim from Cyrodiil to visit his birthplace and possibly start a new life there, but is caught in an ambushed by those damn Imperials trying to capture Ulfric Stormcloak. Wolstein knew little about the rebellion at this point, but learned quickly. After nearly being executed by the Imperials, his hatred for them grew even more. He decided that he would join the Stormcloaks so that he could get revenge on the Empire and have greater opportunity to spill Imperial blood. This is his initial motive, but eventually comes to believe in the rebellion itself and finds more purpose in the fight. During all of this he discovers that he is Dragonborn. He is unsure and confused about this at first, but soon relishes the opportunity for power and is more than happy to fulfill his role.

Wolstein is a weaponsmaster, using all kinds of weapons including one-handed and two-handed weapons as well as bows and shields, though he has a strong preference for greatswords. He wears heavy armor and prefers nordic steel armor because he is a true Nord. He refuses to use elven weaponry because of his prejudice. He is also a practitioner of restoration magic, realizing its potential. He doesn't use any other form of magic, and especially hates conjuration. He is curious about enchanting because of its potential for power, but is wary of it at the same time.

Wolstein is stubborn and can be arrogant at times. He is brave and honorable but is also cautious and likes to be prepared. He suffers from an internal struggle that at this point in his life he does not realize exists. He has an unfulfilled and yet undiscovered thirst for power that sometimes gets in the way of his honor. He strives to be honorable, but at times finds himself breaking this honor to gain power, both personal and political. This will be very important later on when he finally comes to the realization that his true desire is for great power. This will likely happen when he fulfills his destiny as Dragonborn and has defeated the Empire in the civil war. After coming from humble beginnings, his quest for true power will begin after he has already become powerful. He will become pissed off, and think that he deserves to be High King of Skyrim because without him the entire world would have come to an end. He will then go on a power trip and start a campaign to take the throne and after fighting for Ulfric Stormcloak he will ultimately betray him. He will challenge Ulfric in the Nord tradition and take the throne by force.

That's my plan for him anyway. He still has quite a bit of character development to go through before he gets to that point.

My next character is probably going to be some kind of psychotic sociopath and will be a kleptomaniac. His motive will be whatever he feels like at the time. He will be obsessed with death and will probably end up spending a lot of time in jail. He will end up saving everyone from Alduin but everyone will hate him because he is completely crazy out of his mind insane in the membrane.

Wow i really liked all your stories!! :D lots of diversity! I enjoyed reading about the Dark Elf and the former preistess as well as the two Nords. I like that all of our characters (with exception of KanesGhost's character) have some dark negative past which drives us to meet our goals and become stronger. all of it was lore friendly too! it was very interesting reading about the different stories which have given me ideas for future characters. thx for responding guys :D

My current character is a young Argonian named Walks-In-Mist.

He travelled to Skyrim to get a change of enviroment from Cyrodiil and to perhaps learn the art of jewelrymaking. Unfortunately he didn't know about the currents events and was not happy when he got mixed up with a bunch of Stormcloaks and then almost executed. He's trying to survive as best he can, but generally tries to be a good guy and not steal or things like that. He wields a two-handed sword and wears heavy armour since he likes to be able to take enemies down with few hits. He's also, perhaps unexpectedly, good at alchemy, which has proved to be both quite lucrative as well as very useful in fights. He cannot use the bow because he's myopic, but this doesn't bother him too much since the two-handed sword works well for him.

He's fiercely against racial injustice, and was very sad when he found out the poor living conditions of the Argonians in Windhelm, but he doesn't know enough about the civil war conflict to feel comfortable taking sides yet. He is kind of soft-hearted and feels sad whenever he has to kill an Argonian in battle, it saddens him that so many seek out a life of banditry instead of making a honest living and being good people.

He enjoys exploring new places, his name reflects this tendency that was strong even when he was but a small hatchling. He started off as fairly skinny and weak since he hadn't done a lot of hard labour in Cyrodiil, being essentially a teenager back then, but now he's starting to become stronger and a fairly good warrior.

He has no real affinity for magic, he doesn't much care for it either way; alchemy is more tangible and easier to understand. His current companion is Kharjo the Khajiit, because Walks-In-Mist thinks that beast races should stick together after seeing how they're both mistrusted in Skyrim.

My character is a Drow, that - unlike the Dunmer, was not born and raised in Morrowind. Dar'Teh (Dar for short) was raised in the streets of Skyrim. His mother had given birth to him and his sister, SunnLok, during the night. Sadly, their mother could not survive the cold nor the injuries she had obtained during the process of giving birth and she passed away. Their father turned to Nord's Mead at first, to them he acted silly - dancing in the streets or talking funny and slurring his words. Dar'Teh was a quiet boy but peacefully calm with his surroundings. He was also nice to everybody and loved to pick flowers and catch butterflies and torch bugs for his sister and him to look at. As they grew older, they befriended a caravan of Khajiit, whom hooked their father up with Skooma.

This changed the father's actions drastically. Everything became even worse for them. A bandit overlord killed their father, looted and hung his body up outside their fort. Once they turned 15, the caravan decided to rid them of their group. The mage of the group, One-Tail, used a paralysis spell on Dar and then the caravan brutally beat his sister. By the time One-Tail's paralysis spell wore off, the caravan had already left.

Dar was left with nothing but his sister's practically lifeless corpse and a black gem he had found a few weeks back. He had scurried through the caravan's leftovers, the sacks and bags they didn't bother to carry. He had hoped to find anything of relevance, maybe a potion of health. He looked through one bag and found a purple book with what appeared to be an upside down "U". He opened it and his eyes became sore from reading it but he could feel a raw feeling he had never felt before. He heard a deep voice from within his mind.

"Do you want her saved?"

"Yes! PLEASE!"

The voice told him to do as planned. He put the black gem down beside her, and watched as her chest slowly rose up, then down. She had trouble breathing just as it was.

"Dar...Dar'Teh. What..."

"Shh, my sister. I will cure you." He said as his lips trembled and a tear fell. He continued to do what the voice told him. He curled his hand and suddenly saw a black ball conjure in front of it.

"Release." Dar did as told and the ball lunged into the sister's body. "Now... we wait." He saw her take a few more breaths, then stop. Dar'Teh did not cry. He felt the air pick up harshly and saw a purple mist go into the gem. This all lasted appromixately 3 minutes.

"She is now with you forever." The voice said.

~~

Dar'Teh grew up with depression and rage. He had traveled to the College of Winterhold and mastered Conjuration along with Destruction. He kills every Khajiit he sees with an uncontrollable rage. The Imperials feared his power while the Stormcloaks mindlessly ignored them, so he decided to forcefully place the fear. He joined the Imperials and slaughtered all those who impose him and finally, in one final battle, he wiped Ulfric. He wears his robes, not as a fashion piece, but as proof that he has slain the rebellion. The boy who once was filled with glee and happiness now only is filled with devastation and anger along with a growing power. He only soul traps Khajiit and Orcs then demolishes their bodies with a master lightning storm, then uses their souls to enhance his robes. He has taken down Alduin with his mighty power and plans on challenging Miraak to a well-matched duel.

Dar'Teh doesn't hope to grow stronger. He doesn't hope to grow faster, nor bigger. He just hopes that, within time, he can release SunnLok from the soul gem into Sovngarde so that when his time comes - he may finally see his sister's face.

Mastery:

Destruction

Conjuration

Illusion

Alteration

Light Armor (but mainly wears robes)

Enchanting

Alchemy
