new to modding - need help w/CBBE

I have never installed mods for skyrim before so I am new to this and I cant seem to get any mods to work. I am trying to use the CBBE mod and the body slider specifically. I installed the Nexus Mod Manager, downloaded and installed the mods in it (checked to see that the files were in fact in the data folder) but they dont seem to be working. I can click on the data files button in the skyrim launcher, but the mods dont appear there. I think I read somewhere that these mods may not be esp or something so its ok if they dont appear in the list. What I want to know is after installing the mods, how do i get them to work? Will the npcs in game just automatically change? Or do I have to use the console in game to type in some command? For example after clicking the "create bodies" button in body slider it gives me a message saying the bodies were created successfully, but then nothing changes in game. What do i do after clicking the create bodies button? I have spent hours looking up information and somehow I just cannot get anything to work properly so I decided I had to make a post of my own. Any help on modding in general / getting the CBBE mod and the body slider to work would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Also, can these mods be used to alter NPCs , or only your own character, or both?

And I was wondering where to find the Caliente body mod bustier version, but I can't seem to find it myself, and anytime i find links to mods on this site it gives me an error, making it seem like the mod is no longer hosted here. Is this normal? because it seems to happen with every mod i find with a link to this site.

I don't use Bodyslide so I can't really give you any help there. But CBBE is a non-plugin replacer, so you won't see it in your data files list. CBBE modifies the default female body, so any NPC that uses the default female body (all of them except for custom races) will be affected by the changes made.

"I think I read somewhere that these mods may not be esp or something so its ok if they dont appear in the list."

Correct.

"Will the npcs in game just automatically change?"

Yes. See FAQ2a in the CBBE mod description. The player and same-sex NPCs all use the same meshes/textures, bar the beast races and elderly, who have their own textures.

"Or do I have to use the console in game to type in some command?"

No. What?

"For example after clicking the "create bodies" button in body slider it gives me a message saying the bodies were created successfully, but then nothing changes in game. What do i do after clicking the create bodies button?"

Oh. See FAQ, and follow the visual guides for BodySlide. They were typed up/made to help you.

"I have spent hours looking up information and somehow I just cannot get anything to work properly so I decided I had to make a post of my own."

You didn't think to look in the CBBE mod description? It does say at the top of the page to read the FAQ if you have questions/issues.

"Also, can these mods be used to alter NPCs , or only your own character, or both?"

Only if you use a mod that separates the various meshes/textures (see FAQ2b). They require manual installation of files, though.
