Starting retexture project, need constructive criticism

Hi all,

I'm starting a retexture project for some things in the Fallout games. I haven't really made any textures before but I've decided to give it a try. So far I've done a couple sections of a texture and I want you guys' thoughts the little I have done so far.

Here's the original texture, upscaled from 1024^2 pixels to 4096^2 pixels. Make sure to click through and view full resolution for all of these.

And here's it with the work I have done on it so far:

And here, top is original bottom is new

I think perhaps you need to finish a full texture before people can really judge what you can do, right now you have only done small pieces and the rocks are hard to see.

My suggestion is to finish one full texture including normal map, then take more pictures like you have but also take pictures of in game shots too. Because what it looks like in photoshop/gImp is not what it looks like in game, makes it easier to see the difference. :)

Augh! But those two little things already took so long.

Alright, I think I'll give a shot at finishing this one. If only I knew where it showed up in-game ಠ_ಠ

In response to post #11788435.

I used this on my older computer which had 3GB of Ram with no problems, I have optimized all the meshes and textures so it should cause very little issues for you at all.

The Scavenger armor mod was not optimized at all so all the armors in this mod should be much less demanding for you. Edited by nivea

Wow those textures look really good. I honestly don't have anything constructive to say since it looks really good and I'm not good at texturing myself. I just wanted to make this comment to show that your good work is being noticed and it'd be awesome to use your textures in my game.

But just a quick question. Will this project retexture things covered by the NMC Texture Pack?

Perhaps try something less intensive first, like a table/chair or if you want metal a car ect? Your going for some pretty detailed and large stuff it might be better to find something in Goodsprings to retexture for criticism and questions.

I mean this is all just suggestions from a fellow texture worker, you dont have to do any of it.

That's probably a good idea... this one here has a bunch of elements and I'm probably not equipped to juggle them all right at the moment.

I'm going to go find a chair or something to retexture... do you mind if I PM you the result for your thoughts when I'm done?

If this gets off the ground, my aim will be to retexture mostly things not covered by NMCs packs, specifically the DLC's as NMC didn't touch them except, of course, if the DLC re-used anything from the main game. But there are plenty things in the DLC's that are unique, and I really want to give them an upgrade.
