Skyrim Fan Fiction Help

So I had the idea that I would do a fan fiction that would chronicle my dark elf's adventures through the land of Skyrim. I had an idea for the character's back story on how he had come to be in Skyrim, but after checking the time line on the elder scrolls wiki, I hit on a slight problem. See, my original idea was that he was sent to Skyrim on a mission from his father, but that on his way back home is when Red Mountain erupted, and the storms and tidal waves that it caused, destroyed his ship.

He ended up floating back to Skyrim on some debris, but because he had lost all his id and belongings when his ship sank, they wouldn't let him back in. He having to try and force his way in since he had no place else to go, which resulted in his being caught, and how he ended up on the prison wagon at the start of the game. However the eruption of Red Mountain didn't occur until 195 years before the events in Skyrim take place according to the wiki. What's more odd is that the great collapse when much of Winter Hold fell into the sea, supposedly via the storms and waves that Red Mountain's eruption created, didn't even happen until 117 years after the actual eruption took place, according to the wiki.

As one can imagine, this has played havoc with my original plans for the back story, the problem isn't that I would have to make my elf over 195 years old to keep with the time line, it's more of what he was doing for that long, since he certainly couldn't have been floating on debris for that amount of time. Even if I stretched the amount of time it took him to sail to Skyrim from his home in Morrowind, and the time it took for him to do the mission he was sent there for, then time it took him to sail part of the way back home before the eruption, that would only cover a few years at most. I did have an idea for adding in a possible stay in jail but again, at most that would only add another year at most to it.

Another idea I had and that seems to be the most plausible and easiest way to fill the time gap, would be to just skip over it, make it so that when my elf was floating on the debris of his ship back towards Skyrim, that the eruption had also created some kind of time portal that he'd gone through, that brought him into the future where the events of Skyrim take place. Though I'm not to sure at how plausible that idea might be, what are everyone elses ideas on what I could do? I'm open to suggestions.

And what is wrong with a 195 year old elf? They are long lived. He could have been stranded on some remote coast with no way to leave. That allows you an entire new set of possible stories on what he was doing for that time.

First story, the tale of his initial voyage and shipwreck.

Second through ? stories of his adventures in whatever wild lands he was stuck in. Possibly he managed to get a ship from one location to another but still nothing going back to Morrowind as shipping there is mostly not happening since the disaster.

Final - his eventual trip back home and what happens.
